Splitter is an utility which can be used to Split a file into various fragments and Join the fragmented files to reform the original file. This can be useful for copying a large file into floppies for transportation or for sending a large file through the modem. INSTALLATION ============ You need the file VBRUN300.DLL to run this program. This file is easily available at various sites on the Internet or at most BBS. This file is not bundled in SPLITTER.ZIP. Copy the file VBRUN300.DLL into the WINDOWS/SYSTEM directory. Copy the files SPLITTER.EXE and README.TXT (this file) to Any Directory. Open the group ACCESSORIES or any othe group in which you wish to place this utility. Choose from the menu of program manager and select the File SPLITTER.EXE as the new program item. Now that you have the Splitter icon in your window you can double click on this icon to start the program. INSTRUCTIONS ============ 1. Splitting a file - Click the button to switch to split mode (On startup the split mode is activated by default). - Select the File to be Split. - Select the Destination Directory/Drive. - If you wish to change the size of fragments click in the edit box. Use the delete key to delete old fragment size and reenter new fragment size. The Button gives information about the number of fragments the file will be split into. - Click the button to split the file. The file will be split into many fragments with extensions denoting the fragment number. A file with the same name as your split file and the extention SFH will also be created. This is the header file. e.g. : If you were to split the file ABC.ZIP you will get split files called ABC.1, ABC.2, ABC.3 ...etc and 1 header file called ABC.SFH **IMPORTANT** It is important to send the .SFH (Header) file with the split files else they cannot be rejoined. 2. Joining a file - Ensure that all fragments of the file to be joined and the .SFH (Header) file are copied to the same location. - Select the button to switch to join mode. - Select the .SFH (Header) file of the file to join. - Select the Directory/Drive. - Click the button to join the file. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hope you find this utility useful.
