----------------------------------------------------------------------------- The "Coastal 407" BBS Listing (Formerly The Swisher/Netzel 407 BBS Listing) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- HISTORY ------- The List was started by Kris Nader and Tim Grader of the MedCom BBS in April of 1994. The list had only 10-15 entries, but it was soon taking form. On April 25th, Eric Thav announced that his List would NOT cover most of Palm Beach County. So about 70 Bulletin Board Systems were erased from his list and he mainly concentrated on the Dade and Broward Counties Listings. Even though his list covered Boynton and Delray, it still wasn't sufficient to the needs of the BBSers in PBC. So, in reaction, Jeff Swisher, SysOp of The Odyssey BBS decided to join MedCom in creating a List that would not only tell the phone #'s, Baud Rates and Systems, but also if the BBS supported RIP Graphics, Adult Files, CD-ROM, and most importanty- NETS. With 57 BBS's all called and tested, we managed to put together a great list for the BBSers of PBC. Not only do we have an ANSI of our Listing, but we have an ASCII, and a Text file ready to be printed out on your printer, and maybe (if by popular demand) a RIP Listing as well. On June 10th, Rick Rodriguez, SysOp of The Empire BBS was accepted as a distributor of the List. Which made 3 BBS's available to the public. August 1st marked the begginning of the 407Net which allowed the SysOp of a BBS in PBC, to be in direct contact with the HUB and recieve the list every month, plus be connected to a Net for only Palm Beach County. The 407Net was changed to the FX Net and supported over 12 BBS's in Palm Beach County! In 1995 we changed the name from Swisher/Nader/Grader to Swisher/Nader/Rodriguez 407 BBS Listing. In April of 1995, Kris Nader (founder of the list) moved away. Rick Rodriguez took his BBS down but the list will still go on with it's 13th Release! FX_Net was taken down. Now in June of 1995 we are recoginized in the Palm Beach Post as THE LIST that covers the Palm Beaches. We are celebrating our 1 year anniversary and are now adding Internet Services to the list. --- August 1995 is the last edition that Jeff Swisher will be doing. Starting September I will be passing the list onto Mark Netzel, SysOp of The Eagle's Nest BBS. I have done the BBS Listing for a year and 3 months now and I am glad it is so well recognized. I am leaving town and hope to see the list grow even more when I visit PBC. Thanks. --- November 1995 - Ted Parsons of Jupiter BBS Services takes over the list and changes the name to The "Coastal 407" BBS Listing. --- February 1996 - Where do I begin? Many many changes have been made. Thanks to BellSouth changing the way local toll calls are billed we have expanded the list to include Southern Palm Beach County, Martin County and Port St. Lucie. The 25 cent flat rate local tool call should expand the range of many BBS's in the area. The "Coastal 407" BBS Listing is now displayed on the SEFLIN Free-Net. It is also now available on the Internet via FPTMAIL. An Internet Mailing list has also been started to provide a forum for the "Coastal" BBS Community. We have put the straight ASCII/TEXT format back in the archive for those systems that need it. * We're sorry to see John Benjamin close his board down. He has given much to our BBS Community over the years. All the best to John from The "Coastal 407" BBS Listing and Ted Parsons. Thanks John! ---
