7/22/95 At the present time, there are no hard and fast rules pretaining to SigNet. Suffice it to say, it was conceived as a family type mail network and has been enjoying that flavor ever since 1991 when it was started. The net is small but is directed by a dedicated group of interested people and has been responsible for teaching novice sysops the techniques of echo-mail. The directors feel there should be some minimum requirements for new sysops to join the net. This is only to ensure that the joining system is not a hack or elite BBS and that the sysop has not just thrown up a board for kicks. Listed below are the requirements for systems to join the net: 1. Your board must be at least three months old. 2. You must have at least 25 registered users. 3. You (the Sysop) must be at least 14 years old. 4. Your modem must be capable of calling out at 9600 bps or higher. 5. You must be willing to echo all 36 of the conferences. 6. You must be running registered BBS software. 7. You must exchange mail with your Hub at least every other day. 8. No Hack, Phreak, Pirate or Elite BBS's are permitted to be members. These are the very minimum requirements to apply for membership. There is no fee to join, but please do not apply if you cannot meet the above require- ments. The directors reserve the right to refuse anyone membership in the net, based on their judgement of your suitability as a member sysop. Please see the file APPLY.TXT in this archive for the membership application. We hope you qualify, and we will do our best to help you get started if you are new at echo-mail. Your board will benefit from the increased interest that echo-mail will generate in your users. If you are already aquainted with mail nets, or have an established BBS with a fair amount of users, this net will be just the ticket to add "new blood" to your message bases. The net is not new. It's been around since 1991 but has undergone several name changes. We are on the verge of a growth period and hope you will be a part of the push for higher quality BBS networking. SigNet is going places! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Requests for changes in the above rules should be made directly to the Net Director whose name & address is listed below: Bob Simms, SigNet Director Union Station BBS, Union, NJ 1-908-688-0738 (Fido 1:107/944)
