The following is an addendum to THE COMPENDIUM, the very popular collection of complete card descriptions for Magic: The Gathering, as compiled by Mark Wilkinson. This addendum contains the complete set of HOMELANDS card descriptions.

A brief note on THE COMPENDIUM. It was started by yours truly way back in June of 1994. I had just started playing/collecting M:TG with the release of the Revised Edition, and wanted to put together a comprehensive and EXACT list of what each and every card in MAGIC did, said, cost, etc. What makes THE COMPENDIUM unique among other Card Lists is that it is a WORD-FOR-WORD description of every card in M:TG and was individually and pain-stakingly entered by myslef and ONLY myself. Every card was physically verified by me, not by people sending descriptions through the mail or over the net, but physically sitting in front of me as I entered it into the computer. That's not to say there aren't any spelling errors or other boo-boos. After all, we're talking over a thousand cards in Magic now. But I strongly encourage people to let me know of any mistakes they find via Electronic Mail at the address listed below. The error will be corrected and released with the next version of THE COMPENDIUM.

THE COMPENDIUM now contains full listings for the REVISED EDITION, ARABIAN NIGHTS, ANTIQUITIES, LEGENDS, THE DARK, FALLEN EMPIRES, ICE AGE and now HOMELANDS. Because HOMELANDS is only a 140-card expansion set, I'm releasing this Addendum only and not as a complete version of THE COMPENDIUM. Why? Because I released a new version mid-summer with the listings from ICE AGE. The file is rather large now (even though it's zipped), so I didn't want those people who have been with me from day one to have to download the whole shebang just for this expansion. However, if you'd like the full version, it's located in the Gaming Information Exchange library on America On-Line (in the MAGIC: THE GATHERING section to be exact.) Keep in mind, though, that the version currently on-line there does not contain this file yet. When I add 4TH EDITION and CHRONICLES (my next project), then I will include this Addendum in that major release.

HOMELANDS

A MAGIC: THE GATHERING Expansion Deck

	"Hidden away by a mysterious wizard for generations, the forgotten

	 plots. What secrets will you uncover as you venture into HOMELANDS?"

The HOMELANDS expansion set was released on October 15th, 1995, by Wizards of the Coast, and in Booster Packs of 8 cards each only. The cards feature the standard black border of a limited edition set and have the expansion symbol of a circle with what looks to be 3 continents on a world (like a map or a globe would show).

Three of these cards (Apocalypse Chime, Baron Sengir and Feroz's Ban) were also released in the HOMELANDS prestige edition comic book from Acclaim "Armada" Comics, 1 random card polybagged with each comic. (Whether this realistically alters the rarity of these three cards is unknown and would be based upon adding total card print run, figuring how many of these three cards were part of that print run, then adding those totals to the total print run of the comic book and then recalculating the rarity based on how many of each type were included in the comic's print run....I personally am not that bored.)

The expansion consists of 115 "functionally different" cards, while actually containing 140 "physically different" cards total. In other words this set is similar to FALLEN EMPIRES, in that 25 common cards have two versions; functionally the same card, but containing different artwork and, in some cases, different flavor text. All 140 cards are listed below. The cards with different versions are labeled as "(ver. 1)" and "(ver. 2)", and their descriptions shall contain a SPECIAL section identifying which version is which, usually by a desciption of the artwork or noting of different flavor text.

As mentioned in The Duelist #7, "Cards are printed in sheets of 121 cards. The number after the RARITY classification is the number of times that particular card appears on its sheet. The average distribution for a Homelands booster pack is six cards from the common sheet and two cards from the uncommon sheet. This distribution is a projected average; actual distribution in individual boosters may vary." Note that all cards with two versions are C2 (each printed twice on each Common card sheet). There are four different RARITY classifications in HOMELANDS, listed below in increasing rarity (easiest to hardest): 

	C2	(Common sheet, appearing twice)

	U3	(Uncommon sheet, appearing three times)
	U1	(Uncommon sheet, appearing once)

Note that C1 and U3 seem to have about the same chance of appearing in a Booster pack, since there are (on average) 6 Common cards to 2 Uncommon cards.
