NAVAL RESERVE OFFICER TRAINING CORPS MARINE OPTION ---------------------------------------------------- NROTC-MARINE OPTION ------------------- The Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps Program was founded in 1926 as an additional route to becoming a commissioned officer in the United States Marine Corps. The program will educate and train you one day per week during the school year and for a six-week increment each summer. The goal is to create a leader of Marines. At the same time, it is the opportunity for you to learn about the Marine Corps, see it with your own two eyes, and do first-hand what Marines do on a daily basis. Following graduation, you have a guaranteed professional occupation, which will provide you with the type of training and leadership experience employers are looking for, in today's competitive society. ELIGIBILITY ----------- General eligibility -Be age 17 by September 1st of your graduation year and a United States citizen. -Be a high school junior, senior, or a high school graduate in good standing. Academic eligibility -Have at least the minimum test score on one of the following tests: -Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT)-1000 (verbal and math score combined) -American College Test (ACT)-45 (English and math combined) -Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB)-115 (EL score) -Apply for and gain admission to the NROTC- Marine Option college you have selected. Physical eligibility -Pass a medical examination and physical fitness test (PFT). -Weight proportionate to height standards. -20/20 vision, corrected 20/20 vision (with prescription lenses) is waiverable. Moral eligibility -Possess no moral obligations or personal convictions that will prevent conscientious bearing of arms and supporting and defending the constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign or domestic. BENEFITS OF THE PROGRAM ----------------------- Four year scholarship with unconstrained choice of course of study at any of the approved schools within the NROTC-Marine Option program. All tuition, cost of textbooks, and other fees of an instructional nature are covered by the scholarship up to but not exceeding $ 80,000.00. Additional monies come in the form of a montlhy stipend ($150.00 per month for up to 40 months) and while undergoing summer training (pay is equivalent to U.S. Naval Academy midshipmen $558.04 per month). Note that all uniforms are issued by the United States Navy. NO OBLIGATION UNTIL AFTER FRESHMAN YEAR OF COLLEGE. OBLIGATIONS OF THE PROGRAM -------------------------- Academic requirements -B.A. or B.S. degree completion in good standing before the age of 25. Physical eligibility -Pass semi-annual physical fitness test (Marine Corps PFT). Military requirements -Weekly drill instruction and summer training instruction.
