FauxRAM v1.0 Fake RAM/resource doubler for OS/2 Freeware (c) 1996 by Greg Kondrasuk ------------------------------------------------------------- REQUIREMENTS: -OS/2 2.x, 3.0 WARRENTY: This software comes with absolutely no warranty, expressed or implied, including but not limited to fitness for a particular purpose. You should realize that I am in no way responsible for any loss or damage that may occur due to the use of this software. The program is provided on an "as is" basis. Use at your own risk. DESCRIPTION: In reading the OS/2 Usenet groups over the last few months, there have been a lot of postings asking about RAM compression utilities for OS/2. Then with all the talk over the SoftRAM scandal, I figured it would be easy to make a program for OS/2 that was just as effective at increasing RAM and improving system performance as SoftRAM is with Windoze! So for all you OS/2 users who have been envious of your Windoze counterparts who get to run those RAM compression utilities, this is for you! :-) I decided that, since the program actually does nothing, why stop at doubling just the system memory? FauxRAM also adds video RAM, processor speed, hard drive capacity, and CD-ROM throughput doubling! In addition, I also managed to come up with an algorithm that will convert an SX processor into a DX! Really. ;-) The first time you run FauxRAM you will be prompted to input your system setup, which will act as the "base" from which all system improvement values will be calculated. After that, just check the appropriate checkboxes and adjust the sliders to get the performance improvements that are best for your system! Of course, no improvement is real unless there is a graph to tell you what you've gained! (At least this seemed to be the philosophy with SoftRAM. I remember watching one of the QVC dorks selling SoftRAM just before the Win95 launch saying, "This is an 8-meg machine. But with SoftRAM I have 14 megabytes! If I want more, I just click here a few times...now I have 16 megabytes!" As if it were that simple...) To see what FauxRAM has gained you, just check the appropriate item the from Graph menu. If you have any questions/comments/suggestions, please let me know. Feel free to email me at gregk@cvfn.org (mailbox open 24 hours a day!). Enjoy! KNOWN PROBLEMS: -Rapid clicking on check boxes can cause the slider disabling to become out of sync with its checkbox. The good news is that there seems to be no system performance loss when it happens. :-) HISTORY --------------------------------------------------------------- 31 January 1996 - Initial v1.0 release
