You setup Terminate to run the external DOS program TERMSCRN.COM as the external screensaver and whenever there is a period of inactivity on your PC while running Terminate, TERMSCRN will be loaded. What does it require to run ??? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Although it is written primarily for use with the Terminate communications package it can be run from MSDOS or from Windows. The requirements for the program are as follows : o 64k of free base memory o 80286 (286) or above CPU o VGA or above display adaptor For use under Terminate you require version 3.00 or above. How do I set it up to work with Terminate ? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ To setup TERMSCRN to run with Terminate follow these simple steps : (Note: Steps are for version 3.00, later versions may require a different installation procedure.) o Copy the file TERMSCRN.COM to a directory of your choice (I'd recommend the UTILS\ directory on top of your main Terminate directory). o Load up Terminate o Press ALT-O to enter the Options Menu o Select SCREEN & COLORS from the Menu o Select SCREEN BLANKER o Enter the time before the screen blanker activates (default of 120 seconds) o Enter the path to the screen blanker and the name (UTILS\TERMSCRN.COM) Now Terminate is setup ready to use the blanker. How does it work ??? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The program was written in just a few hours from scratch in 8086 assembly language. I created the graphics in Adobe Photoshop 2.51 for Windows and then programmed the screen saver to use the graphic. It uses the horizontal sync port to check for a screen refresh before it moves the image on screen (this should make it move very smoothly) and also fades the background from black to a dark red and back again. If there is any call for it, I will publish the source code. The compiled CODE is 247 bytes in size. The graphics DATA is 25,366 bytes in size. The whole package is 7,630 bytes in size. The source has 176 lines of code and is 5056 bytes in size (20 times the size of the resultant executable file (without data)). About the author ... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hey, I just felt like doing it OK!! :-) I hang around in various Fido/ILink confs, Terminate, Telix, Comms, Technical etc, etc. I'm 17 and am very bored with life :) More ??? ~~~~~~~~ If anyone wants more, then gimme some ideas etc ... Contact ??? ~~~~~~~~~~~ You can catch me on various ILink / RIME / TheNet / Fido areas, and my email feed has died so no internet address just now. Bye for now. Rick
