Quick Install instructions These are quick and dirty, but should be effective in setting you up. - Herbert Bushong Blackbeard's BBS INSTALLING ========== 1. Extract the contents to the directory of your choice. 2. Edit the CONFNUM.IN file to reflect your intelec conference numbers. The file is a straight text file. The structure is as follows: a. ## = Individual conferences b. ##-## = Conference RANGES. Must be given from Low to High, separated by a dash c. One or more entries per line, multiple entries separated by a space or semi-colon. Blank lines ignored. Recommend keeping multiple entry lines to 9 per line. Samples ------- 7 10-100 105 115-200 Would lock user out of 7, 10 through 100, 105, and 115 through 200 7;10-100 105 115-200 Would do the same 3. Copy the current TCANLIST.IN file from the IN_yymm.ZIP into the PPE directory and edit it, removing all extra comments. Leave one user name per line, no blanks. 4. If you want to use different filenames than CONFNUM.IN and TCANLIST.IN, edit the IN_TCAN.CFG file to indicate the filenames you wish to use. Give ONLY the Filename, the files MUST reside in the PPE directory. Line 1 Must be the name of the TCANLIST file Line 2 Must be the name of the CONFNUM file 5. Now you must choose how to run it. You have 2 options for execution. a. Run from a SECURITY DISPLAY FILE. These are files with names like 10., 20., 55., etc... If you are unsure about these, look in your manual under "Login Security Files" This method would consist of placing the line: !d:\path\IN_TCAN.PPE in a login security display file for your new user security. *NOTE* I couldn't get LANGUAGE variations of these files to work, so only use a basename with this method b. Run from ANY display file and specify a Security level on the command line. This method would consist of placing the line: !d:\path\IN_TCAN.PPE 10 in a display file, for example the LOGON questionnaire, replacing 10 with the value of your new user security level This method will NOT work from the welcome screen or newuser questionaire as their user record hasn't been created yet. That's all for installing. Your new users may notice a slight pause (less than a second) but will have no indication they are being checked. UPDATING CURRENT USERBASE ========================= Your now set the TCAN new users. Now how do you check your current users (or Recheck a new TCAN list)??? Run the PPE with the UPDATE parameter. I recommend you do this with no one online. It only takes a couple minutes (250 took under a minute). Log in as the sysop, then from the main prompt enter: PPE d:\path\IN_TCAN.PPE UPDATE (replacing d:\path\ with path to ppe) The PPE will indicate which record it's at, and will display any of your current users that it has found in the TCAN list and is Locking out of Intelec. You can also run the UPDATE option from a shift-Function key definition or the command line if you prefer. Any actions it takes will be logged to your callers log for reference. SUPPORT QUESTIONS ================= This PPE is provided as freeware (w/source) as an Intelec Software Extra! The source is well commented in hopes you'll be able to learn a few tricks to PPL programming.
