Think of it as an electronic flashcard program. All you have to do is click your mouse buttons to take a test! Creating tests is just as easy. The Tester also provides several useful options, such as the ability to randomize the flashcard order and switch the questions and answers. *Taking Tests* Studying any kind of information with The Tester is a breeze. Here is the process: 1) The Tester displays the question. 2) After you say the answer to yourself, press the Show Answer button to display the answer. 3) Press either the Right or Wrong button to tell The Tester whether you answered right or wrong. Alternatively, you can click the mouse buttons anywhere within the window. Click either the left or right mouse button to show the answer. Then click the left mouse button if you got the question right or the right mouse button if you got the question wrong. When you have gone through all the flashcards, The Tester will ask you if you want to be tested again on the questions you got wrong. You can keep on doing this until you eventually get all the questions right. If you feel like stopping the test at any time, just press the Stop button. *Creating Tests* Creating a test is a very simple process. Using either a text editor or word processor, you just type in your questions and answers using the following guidelines: * A capital or lowercase Q must be on the line preceding each question, and a capital or lowercase A must be on the line preceding each answer. * There can be up to 70 characters in each line. * If you want to play a sound when a question or answer is displayed, you must enter a capital or lowercase W on the line preceding the corresponding question or answer. Then, on the next line, you must enter the path and filename of the Wave sound file (*.WAV) you want to be played. For an example, take a look at SMPLTEST.TXT. Alternatively, you can use the old test format used in the original version of The Tester. The format is as follows: question 1 on the first line, answer to question 1 on the second line, question 2 on the third line, answer to question 2 on the fourth line, and so on. However, when using this format you can only have 1 line of up to 70 characters for each question and answer and no sounds as well. For an example, take a look at VOCAB.TXT. If you are using a word processor, remember to save your tests in the text file (*.TXT) format. *Commands* Open Test Use the Open Test dialog box to open an existing test. Remember, tests must be in the text file (*.TXT) format. Start Test Starts the current test. When selected while taking a test, the test will be restarted. Stop Test Ends the current test being taken and shows test results. Edit Test Loads the selected text editor and the current test for editing. To create a new test, create a new file from within your text editor. See Creating Tests to learn how to write tests. If you use a word processor, remember to save your tests as a text file (*.TXT).
