GreenNet is known WORLDWIDE as keeper of the International GREEN BBS Lists! Our network has been around for over 4 years and we're still growing steadily. We earlier merged with the Sierra Club (500,000+ members!) BBS Network - after serving for years as global gateway between the Eco-Echo Conference & SIERRAN. The latter is a backboned International Fidonet echo which dates back to 1992. I am delighted to report I was elected as SIERRAN Moderator by unanimous vote! We've been relaying coast to coast for years now - but for quite a while we didn't have our "Fido-style" Zone based nodelist ready. We decided to go with ZONE 365 for this purpose & GreenNet's nodelist IS ready! (Sorry for delays!) I truly think this now makes us poised for tremendous growth in 1996 & beyond. We have NO intention of carrying any non-environmental conferences in order to be more popular. We are always looking for more boards that can help us to improve the quality of our network. Thanks for YOUR consideration to join us! We also got a Sky-Link data demodulator connected to accept QWK on our DISH! We hope to make ALL environmental Usenet Newsgroups available to you for FREE! For now, these newsgroup tests are available on a "Read-Only Mail" basis only. Thank you for your participation! We're always in the process of organizing & improving our International Environmental BBS Network. We'll appreciate any help to make it even better! Here's a lineup of conferences available to you: 1. GreenNet This is Conference #1 on Earth Art BBS! It might confuse you at (GREEN.029) first, but GreenNet is both THIS conference, AND the rest of the network. We're now relaying this conference as the Gateway into Fidonet's GREEN.029 Echo! This can allow non-Fido boards to get worldwide access without actually having to set up a "front end" type mailer. For non-Fido BBS's, if you'll only want to get ONE Eco-Conference from us, we strongly suggest you select this one! This one gets a significant percentage of replies from overseas, and Moderator Ward Dossche (of Belgium) estimates there are over 10,000 systems connected globally! How's THAT for big coverage? Ward announced I'm now appointed as GREEN.029 Zone 1 Coordinator (North America), so I want to do whatever I can to help him out! We're proud to have helped increase the traffic since we linked! 10. HubEARTH This is the GreenNet conference just for our SysOps & Co-SysOps! It's THE place to ask about relays & news, concerning Earth Art. (Please add at SysOp Level ONLY!) This conference NOT required, but highly recommended! It is your best place for us to discuss relays, private numbers (Stuff we do NOT want our users to see). With access limited, please ask questions PUBLIC! Since a sysop at another node may have the same question as you, let's try for group discussions whenever possible, OK? Many know more than I! 22. GN_4SALE GreenNet's Newest Conference, Green For Sale! This should be an exclusive area for "Earth Friendly" items that you want to sell! It's also a FREE public place to advertise a conservation print! (Example: This is NOT the place to advertise your old chainsaw!) Earth Art will keep on using this area & help get it cranked up. 23. ECOLOGY The ECOLOGY Conference, from GreenNet and FidoNet, were COMBINED long ago to share traffic. Rob Waite, the SysOp of Eco-Link BBS in Maine, is the recently elected Moderator and is now E-Listed! For BBS's without a front end mailer, this is a good one to get! If you DO have one, odds are good you can get this through Fido. 24. Recycle We hope to get this going strong, as a recycling tip "highlight" echo. We may link it up to other network Recycling Conferences. GreenNet still has great hope for the future of this conference! This echo "areaname" was added to the International Fidonet Echo List (ELIST) as of 07/01/96, which is a significant step indeed. YOUR efforts to get this echo on Fidonet's backbone appreciated! 25. EchoTest For the PRIMARY GreenNet Sysop Only! (Add at SysOp level ONLY!) We ask everyone to ALWAYS send those test message(s) here FIRST! This will alert other sysops in the net that we will soon have a new board joining us. After we make sure everything is working, (& you pass the "test" here!) then you'll be ready to go public. This is where I check your relaying taglines & get you prepared. For sysops using QWK, getting Net-Status is required beforehand. 26. EchAdmin Shared with The Sierra Club's National Hub, Echo Administration. For the PRIMARY GreenNet Sysop Only! (Add at SysOp Level ONLY!) Again, this is for relay discussions we DON'T want users to see! HubEARTH is for hub stuff, whereas this is for echo discussions. Sysop discussion concerning the SIERRAN Echo is now appropriate. 27. SIERRAN Started by Sierra Club member Eddie Rowe, this has truly been an ("Eco-Echo") example of how powerful GreenNet can be! When it first started, we built a successful gateway from Sierra Club's old "Eco-Echo". That helped it develop enough traffic to go on Fidonet backbone, which means it's available to over 36,000 Fidonet member boards! We're now trying to phase out "Eco-Echo" & ONLY call it SIERRAN, but for PCRelay sysops still using HubEARTH you need "Eco-Echo"! Sierra Club Chapters across the country are now setting this up, so please help with this one, as we really want it going STRONG! 28. Alerts! This is for Sierra Club Action Alerts! (about legislation, etc.) We hope to appoint someone to post them on a regular basis SOON! (Access to the Sierra Club's cc:Mail system should be required.) These alerts are often time-critical, so please try to add this! 29. Waste We use this as the hazardous waste discussions area in GreenNet. Later in future, it may be combined with the Recycle conference. Please add this so we can start building up the message traffic! 30. GreenTec This is the area for discussion of new Green high technologies & also where to discuss Green issues in the workplace environment. This was called "WrkGreen" for original Sierra Club BBS Network. It was renamed as "Green Tech" to help it attract more activity. If this concept interests YOU, consider being its Moderator NOW! 31. GreenCom GreenNet's COMMON Conference! This one is designed to link with (CHAS_GREEN) other environmental conferences in other networks, local or not, so we can increase participation. (This is CHAS_GREEN locally!) We'd like ALL relaying boards to also carry this one! Access it for all GreenNet sysops, co-sysops and users. NOT required now! We'll also downlink "highlight" messages off our satellite dish. Please tell us what YOU think - Should this be mandatory or not? If so, it would be mighty convenient to find ANYONE in GreenNet. (Areafix it as CHAS_GREEN, but call it Green Common on your BBS) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Here is the listing of Internet newsgroups we've been offering to our members: (These are added to our CONFLST.RLY file, so HubEARTH tests are possible too!) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 82. GreenPol Green_Poly! This is the alt.politics.green Newsgroup on Usenet! At this point, this is only available as a READ-ONLY Conference. Consider waiting until it's fully functional before adding this. 83. EarthSum Earth Summit! This is the alt.earth.summit Newsgroup on Usenet! At this point, this is only available as a READ-ONLY Conference. Consider waiting until it's fully functional before adding this. 85. SavEarth Save_The_Earth This is the alt.save.the.earth Usenet Newsgroup! At this point, this is only available as a READ-ONLY Conference. Consider waiting until it's fully functional before adding this. 86. Sci_Envi Science_Envir This is the alt.sci.environment Usenet Newsgroup! At this point, this is only available as a READ-ONLY Conference. Consider waiting until it's fully functional before adding this. 87. TalkEnvi Talk_Environ This is the alt.talk.environment Usenet Newsgroup! At this point, this is only available as a READ-ONLY Conference. Consider waiting until it's fully functional before adding this. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Here is a listing of extra conferences we are planning to expand/improve soon: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 89. GN_BONE: New Primary GreenNet Filebone ("Green Feed") Echo - Now Testing! 90. GN_OTHER: New Secondary GreenNet Filebone (Back-Files) Echo - Now Testing! 91. GN_GATEWAY: Private/Net Sysops Only Discussions on Filebone project & etc. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ UPDATE: Special Hub Version of DW_TIC (by TIC2PCB author) has been registered! We hope to get it up and running using above 3 echoes in the VERY near future. Rob Waite of Eco-Link BBS is working hard to bring us the EPA Listserve feeds: 96 GN_LIST_EPAPRESS = EPA-PRESS Mailing List via EcoLink Gateway (Read-Only) 97 GN_LIST_EPAGEN = EPA-GENERAL Mailing List via EcoLink Gateway(Read-Only) 98 GN_LIST_EPAFRCON = EPAFR-CONTENTS Mailing List, EcoLink Gateway(Read-Only) 99 GN_LIST_EPAMEETI = EPA-MEETINGS Mailing List by EcoLink Gateway(Read-Only) 100 GN_LIST_EPASAB = EPA-SAB Mailing List via EcoLink Gateway (Read-Only) 101 GN_LIST_EPAIMPAC = EPA-IMPACT Mailing List via EcoLink Gateway (Read-Only) 102 GN_LIST_EPASPECI = EPA-SPECIES Mailing List via EcoLink Gateway(Read-Only) 103 GN_LIST_EPAAIR = EPA-AIR Mailing List via EcoLink Gateway (Read-Only) 104 GN_LIST_EPAPEST = EPA-PEST Mailing List via EcoLink Gateway (Read-Only) 105 GN_LIST_EPATOX = EPA-TOX Mailing List via EcoLink Gateway (Read-Only) 106 GN_LIST_EPATRI = EPA-TRI Mailing List via EcoLink Gateway (Read-Only) 107 GN_LIST_EPAWASTE = EPA-WASTE Mailing List via EcoLink Gateway (Read-Only) 108 GN_LIST_EPAWATER = EPA-WATER Mailing List via EcoLink Gateway (Read-Only) 109 GN_LIST_HYDRO = Hydro-electric Mailing List, EcoLink Gateway(Read-Only) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Hopefully, in fairly short order, they'll go both directions to everyone SOON! That's about it for now, but we continue to grow! Thanks to ALL you SysOps in helping us to get GreenNet off the ground! We have an AWESOME potential, & if you do YOUR part, the network can truly MAKE A DIFFERENCE for the environment! You can route your netmail for Earth Art at our FidoNet address (1:372/50), so long distance call may not be needed! We are upgrading our Fido capabilities, (Now use Zone 365!) & we appreciate any generous offer for assistance on this. If we can get GreenNet to go anywhere near its full potential, the possibility to move mail across the internet is unlimited. Obviously, a cost-sharing plan MIGHT be needed somewhere down the line, but for now we're a totally FREE net. Thanks for your encouragement! Together, we can make it become very powerful! PLEASE: Report any strange events in our hub operations! We ask for your help to improve our hub services. Please give us YOUR input, as it's YOUR Network!
