at least one week prior to publication.

This list is published the first Thursday of every month.  Our WWW site
(located at http://www.wizvax.net/hittman/bbslist.html) is updated the
following weekend.  You can always get the latest version by logging in to
Saratoga Avenue with the handle "BBS LIST." (No password required.) Please
make this list available for your callers to download.  You may also
display it on-line provided the list is shown in it's entirety, including 
the header and footer.  When displaying it on-line you may not alter it in
any way with the exception of removing listings marked *down*.

Permission is required, but it's pretty easy to get. 

All the full time BBS numbers on the list have been verified.  Before the
list is released we run a program that calls all the numbers and records
the results.  It's run for several mornings, when it should be easiest to 
get connected.  We mark a number verified if we receive a carrier or more
than fifteen busy signals.  We then we dial any remaining numbers by hand.
If we get no answer or a recording announces the number is temporarily out
of service we mark the board "temporarily down."  If the recording says the
number has been disconnected the listing is marked "Permanently down."
Boards that are classfied as down are not checked the following month.  A
BBS marked "Temporarily Down" or "Permanently Down" is left on the list for
two months before it is removed.

Many part time boards are open strange hours, making it impossible to
automate the verification.  We verify them once before adding them to the
list, but seldom verify them after that.

The Saratoga Avenue 518 BBS List is the freshest and most accurate list
available for the 518 area.  We need your help to keep it that way, and
appreciate being notified of any errors or omissions.
