Rules of Motorsports One ======================== Notes: In this document, the masculine form is used for brevity. This set of rules can be changed at my discretion. Section 1 - Users ----------------- -Every user should feel free to express his opinions, that is the main purpose of Motorsports One. However, in doing so, he must keep in mind that his opinions need to be free of insults to the persons he is writing to or about. Every user of this network, as well as motorsports personalities, deserve to be treated with respect and if everybody follows this rule, we will not have a problem. -Aliases are not allowed. If you make use of them in other networks, make sure your real name appears on the messages you write on Motorsports One. -Your messages have to respect the topic of the conference in which they are posted. If the type of motorsports you want to write about doesn't have a dedicated conference, it must be posted in the "Other Motorsports" conference. If your message is not about motorsports, it must be posted in the "Chat" conference. -Crossposting of messages from Motorsports One to any other network is strictly forbidden. -Although it is not required, proper usage of the English language is strongly encouraged. -When you quote a message from another user, keep only the minimum of quotes necessary for the users to be able to follow a thread. Use of the ">" character, with or without initials before it, is strongly recommended, most mail readers recognize only that character when displaying quotes in a different color. -In an effort to keep the mail transfer costs from escalating to unreasonable amounts, signatures are limited to 2 lines of text. Also, messages cannot contain graphics, ANSI drawings, BBS color codes or characters other than the ones found on the standard English keyboard and the letters with accents (for names in foreign languages such as French or Spanish). -Whenever possible, and if your BBS is set for it, all personal messages between two users should be moved to netmail. Internet e-mail, when available to both users, is also a recommended alternative. -All infractions to these rules will be pointed out to you by the Network Coordinator. Refusal to abide by these rules is grounds for exclusion from the network. Section 2 - Sysops (and point-system operators) ----------------------------------------------- -All sysops and point-system operators, as users of the network, are subjected to all the rules in Section 1. -The "Sysop" conference is reserved for sysops and point-system operators. You must make sure that your users do not have access to that conference. -All sysops and point-system operators must read at least the messages addressed to them or to All in the "Sysop" conference. -If your software allows it, you must provide netmail access to your users. -Origin lines must be no longer than 78 characters, including the "Origin:" word and the system's address, and must contain nothing else than the name, location and phone number of your BBS. Tearlines must be no longer than 35 characters, including the three dashes (---), and must contain nothing else than the name and version number of the mail software you're using. -Sysops that do not occupy a Host or a Hub position are not authorized to relay the messages to any other system, except to their point-system operators. -If you want to display the rules of the network on your BBS as a bulletin, use the RULES-U.TXT file included in the information kit. -As is the case for the rules for users, all infractions to the rules for sysops will be pointed out to you through the "Sysop" conference. Refusal to abide by these rules is grounds for exclusion of your BBS from the network. Section 3 - Hosts and Hubs -------------------------- -All Hosts and Hubs, as users of the network and sysops, are subjected to all the rules in Sections 1 and 2. -All Hosts and Hubs must make sure that their system is configured properly to forward echomail, netmail and weekly nodelists to the systems they are feeding. -Unlike in most other networks, all nodelist updates and applications will be handled by the Network Coordinator. -All Hosts and Hubs are required to have a copy of the information kit available on their system at all times. An updated copy will be forwarded to you on a weekly basis. -All Hosts and Hubs are required to connect with their uplink at least once a day to insure a steady flow of messages all through the network. It is the Host's duty to notify the Network Coordinator of any Hub that does not comply with this rule. -All Hosts and Hubs are required to provide their downlinks with the conferences that they request, and are not allowed to charge any fee for those services. The only charges involved in the distribution of this network are to be long-distance call charges. -Any Host or Hub that does not comply with the rules of Section 3 may be downgraded to sysop-only status at the Network Coordinator's discretion.
