For best results, put a shortcut to Quick Paths in your Startup group so it starts automatically. To uninstall simply reverse the process. LIBRARY FILES---------------------------------------------------------------- This program needs the Visual Basic 4.0/32 runtime files in order to run. These are available, along with other files that maybe needed, from the library section of our homepage: http://www.csc.liv.ac.uk/~u5ms/tektonix/index.html BACKGROUND------------------------------------------------------------------- Whenever you want to find a file, you first have to find the directory it is in which can be quite a task if the required directory is nested several levels deep. In a normal application this would involve selecting which computer, drive and folders to look in, from the file selector. In Explorer it would involve a similar process using the right hand window pane. You would think there was a faster way of doing this. There is. Read on. USAGE------------------------------------------------------------------------ Once Quick Paths has loaded, there will be a small folder icon next to the clock on your taskbar. The next step is to configure Quick Paths by double clicking it's icon (or right clicking it and choosing 'List...'). Click the 'Add..' button and find the path you would like to make a Quick Path. Repeat for however many you like, and finally close the List box. Now you can use Quick Paths. To do this single click with the left mouse button on the Quick Paths icon. This gives you a list of your Quick Paths, clicking one will make Quick Paths try to pass it on to either, firstly, the most recent file selector box or, secondly, the Windows 95 Explorer. Try it, you'll see what I mean. You'll save time and work faster. OPTIONS---------------------------------------------------------------------- Use a right click on the system tray icon to change configuration. You can change the method in which the file selector box is notified, using either the clipboard (checked) or a slower, alternative method (unchecked). Left click on the system tray icon to display the list of available Quick Paths. List management supports context sensitive help. The destination window is now found at a lower level, which results in the topmost (most recent) window being chosen. This is sensible as when there are more than one open you usually want to work with the most recent. CONTEXT OF USAGE------------------------------------------------------------- Quick Paths can be used in conjunction with many Windows 95 applications. As well as working with Explorer, it also works with nearly every file selection box - in whatever its disguise. Some common ones are listed below: STANDARD - Notepad, Paint, Windows (Browse/Change Icon), EXTENDED - WinZip (Open/Add), LViewPro (Open), VuePrint (Large), OLDSTYLE - Paint Shop Pro 3, other Windows 3.1 Applications. If you are unsure, then just try Quick Paths with that file selector. Quick Paths will recognise the majority of file selector boxes. At this time, foreign users may experience a problems with a few applications.
