Hello fellow hackers, So you are competent and have great expertise at developing you own levels. You have braved the nasty environment of DEU and survived to tell about it (in an Internet distributed level). Good, step right up and listen to my tale. Skip the next paragraph. Oh, my. You lack knowledge of DEU, or how to make your own level easily and quickly. Well, I do suggest you spend more time in your efforts, but, I will tell my tale anyway. "You want this, don't you?" - The Emperor in Return of the Jedi. Behold, sprite graphics for v1.6 BETA permitting the use of Hell on Earth creatures in standard (registered) Doom. To use the sprites, type: doom -file doom2nme.wad s_end.lmp %your_level% -warp % % -skill % For the experienced, doom2nme.wad contains the sprite images and Doom needs the file entry S_END in order to extend the graphics patch set. This LMP is NOT a demo; in fact, LMP's can be used for patching in a single entry! That's all. I didn't know this until scanning the BETA executable and noticing some text "texture2.lmp." Well, TEXTURE2 is an entry in the DOOM.WAD file, so, I must therefore be able to patch in single entries, right? Yup. That's how the ball bounces. So, now you know what the files do. As mentioned before DSTINK.WAD is a group of files that the V1.6 BETA executable seems to believe it requires. As before: STTMINUS WIMINUS DSTINK DPTINK IFOG (not included...get the shareware WAD file and extract them as needed) So as not to lose the inexperienced, -file = patches in a PWAD, must have the PWAD or IWAD id. -warp x y = x is the episode, y is the level (2,1 respectfully in my level. It quickly warps you to any given level. -skill x = x is the difficulty, "skill 4" indicates ultraviolence. 3,2,1 respectfully to the list in Doom. Quick Table of characters Use DEU 5.21!!! All numbers in decimal, not hex or octal. Type Character Character in ID DEU 64 VILE BFG nasty creature 65 CPOS Chaingun Sergeant 66 SKEL Rocket Lauching Sergeant 67 FATT "Y"-throw Baron, no claws. 68 BSPI Baby Spiderdemon 69 BOS2 Mini-Baron 71 PAIN Skull Belching Cacodemon Okay, there are various items between 70 & 79 that I just don't care about. If you can determine what they are, let me know, maybe I can patch in appropirate graphics for the objects. One other thing to note, according to the executable there is now a linedef type that can be assigned to "things" or at least fool the player into thinking the thing activated it. Example in E2M6 I think...the skull bouquet. So, enjoy these sprites. I make *no claims* to these sprite gra- phics...at all! These are the work of the authors at id software. Also, this PWAD is to be used with *only* the registered version of Doom. If you try to use it with the shareware version, may lightning strike you down. Register! ..and if you use these sprites, BUY DOOM II! I plan to. G'bye.
