I was sitting at home, on my computer, playing DOOM. As I listened to one of the numerous sound patches that I've collected spew sounds at me, I thought: I should make my own sound patch for DOOM! The idea sounded great. I quit my game, got out some of my favorite movies, hooked up a tape recorder to the TV, and started collecting sounds. As I went, I kept getting more and more ideas. I began thinking that I wouldn't put these sounds into a DOOM sound patch, but into a new game that I could make. I would make a 3D game, like DOOM, only better! It would be great! It would be my own story! My own characters! My own game! I would spend all my time coding and debugging, and collecting graphics and sounds, and... then I thought a second... did I really want to make a new game? Did I really want to waste all my time trying to go one-up on the best 3D game ever made? Did I really NEED to? No! I remembered that DOOM is just an engine that uses external files to run, and the idea came to me. So I started messing with DOOM. I mean REALLY messing with the insides of it. I also collected a few great utils for changing sounds, graphics, music, and more. I had a great level editor (DEU) that included the source code. I even had some source that id had released. So now I was ready to go. One thing I needed was a theme... (1.2) The Legacy Anyone into movies (like myself) knows what the best trilogy ever made is: Star Wars! The best movies ever made would be my theme. I started trying to see if this would REALLY be possible... could I change EVERYTHING in the game to make it a complete Star Wars universe? The answer came very shortly: YES! So, I called up VeeBalls and asked him if he'd like to help. Of course he wanted to! And this text file is to inform you all about Star Wars DOOM, the name we've come to call it, and what's going on with it. I decided I needed to make an announcement to the public, letting them know what was coming, so they could get very excited and anxious, and give us any suggestions/feedback they may want to (and take their minds off of DOOM 1.3! :) <> <> <> <> <> <> Section [2] <> What IS Star Wars DOOM? <> <> <> <> <> <> (2.1) Quick Overview Star Wars DOOM (referred to in this document as SWDOOM for short) is basically a replacement for DOOM. Sure, you've seen 'em before. You're on your local BBS, scanning for new files, and find yourself overwhelmed with the amount of external WAD files there are for DOOM. Most of these are just extra levels, though. That's what makes SWDOOM special. Not only is it Star Wars, but it completely changes the entire game. No more monsters. No more Robert Prince music. No more levels based on hell. Nope. SWDOOM changes all of this, and more! Now, you'll be running through the Death Star and other locations from the Star Wars Universe, fighting Stormtroopers, Biker Scouts, even the Emperor and Darth Vader! And you'll be doing it all with your lightsaber, blaster, and other Star Wars-type weapons. The soundtrack is of course MIDI versions of John Williams' great original score. We were planning on making SWDOOM a complete external WAD file, so that you wouldn't have to change your original DOOM.WAD at all. However, after some testing, we've found that DOOM will not except sprites and textures in external WAD files. This means that in order for us to change these, we'll have to make a batch file for you to run that changes the actual DOOM WAD file. I decided that since we're going to have to change part of it, we'll change everything. This way, you won't find yourself playing half-Star Wars DOOM. You'll still have to use an external WAD file to change the layout of the levels, but don't worry: if you don't know how to do this, we'll definitely include a batch file that'll start DOOM as Star Wars DOOM. We know that it'd be better if the entire thing could be an external WAD file, but it just isn't possible. (Maybe id will change this limitation in DOOM 1.3?) As for now, we're just going to have to live with it. The main down side to this is that if, for some strange reason, you decide you want to uninstall SWDOOM, you'll have to just delete your DOOM directory and reinstall DOOM. We decided that it would be too hard drive space- consuming to have the install file back up everything it changes. It would take at least 5 megs for these back ups (5 megs that most people don't have! :). We're working very hard to make Star Wars DOOM the best DOOM add-on! <> <> <> <> <> Section [3] <> When Will SWDOOM Be Released? <> <> <> <> <> (3.1) Expected Date No one can say for sure, but we're hoping to have SWDOOM completed by some time this summer, hopefully before Commercial DOOM is released. A tentative date is about August. One thing I can assure you of is that we are working very hard to complete Star Wars DOOM as soon as possible, but we don't want to sacrifice anything. We want it all to be perfect. The August date could very much become July or possibly even late June, depending on how well everything goes. Of course, it might become more like September or even October. There's really no way of telling in these early stages. [3.2] What Still Has To Be Done Since this is the first version of the Star Wars DOOM Informational Document, we've just started. We were working on hand-drawing each sprite of the enemies individually, but then a new idea came to us. (see section 5.2). So, we scrapped what little we had done, and we're now about to start doing sprites and textures. This list will become smaller as we work more and more on it. Here's what's left to be done, in the order that they'll probably be completed: 1) Sprites of all characters 2) Music 3) Weapons graphics 4) Text graphics 5) Miscellaneous graphics: End Screen, status bar, screen border, etc. 6) Levels And here's what we've already completed: o Opening Title Screen (a new one) o All sound effects! (And it sounds great!) o All 3 sky textures (E1-Tatooine, E2-Hoth, E3-Endor) Many of these are very involved processes, so some will take a lot longer than others. I decided that the levels will be the last thing that we'll do, since they'll take the longest and we need almost everything else (especially textures) before I can make the levels. <> <> <> <> <> <> <> Section [4] <> Who's Making SWDOOM? <> <> <> <> <> <> [4.1] SWDOOM Staff List Here's the official list of everyone who's working on Star Wars DOOM: Action Jackson: Head organizer, (Salporin) Toaster, graphics, sounds, levels, everything. VeeBalls: Toaster, Graphics, music, level concepts, everything. SPalpatine: Sound FX, ray-traced textures, lots of Star Wars knowledge. Matt Falk: Matt made the files STARWAR1.WAD and STARWAR2.WAD, and we'll be using some other levels of his based on the Death Star for SWDOOM. Fisco69: Outside textures: walls, floors, and ceilings. Guyver9: Supplying us with maps to base our levels on and also some SW Universe technical details. Sandman II: Weapons concepts. Basically myself and VeeBalls are doing almost everything, and all of the organizing. Frisco, SPalpatine, Guyver, and Sandman II all contacted VeeBalls through America Online. They all were very interested in the project, so after talking to each of them, we gave them each something to do. When I downloaded STARWAR1.WAD, I just HAD to get in touch with Matt! It was exactly what I had planned for an SWDOOM level! (Except, of course, our's will have all new graphics, sounds, etc. :) See Section 4.2 for info on how you can help out! When we get to the level-making stage, I'll be making the levels in DEU 5.2 (or, hopefully, by that time DEU 6.0 will be out!). Since DEU 5.2 comes with the source code, I'm planning on editing it a little to change things like the enemies' names, and re- compiling it. It will then become SWDEU 1.0. [4.2] Help Wanted If you think you would like to help us work on Star Wars DOOM, feel free to contact us. See section 7.2 for info on how you can get a hold of us. Right now, just about anyone who wants to help out is. If you've got some special skill that you think might be useful to us, just let us know and we'll see if we can use you. <> <> <> <> <> <> Section [5] <> What To Expect In SWDOOM <> <> <> <> <> (5.1) Overview This section summarizes everything that will be changed from the original game DOOM in Star Wars DOOM. As we come up with new ideas or scrap old ones, it will be changed accordingly. (5.2) Video Toaster Graphics! I guess this deserves an explanation. We were working on learning Video Toaster, and we started realizing how superior the graphics that we could make with it were. We were planning on making a Star Wars-like animation with it anyway, so we decided that while we were at it, we could make the sprites and textures for Star Wars DOOM. So now, the graphics in SWDOOM will most likely be BETTER than those in the original DOOM! The chances of this are extremely good. Just another reason to look forward to SWDOOM! For those of you who don't know what Video Toaster is, I'll tell you. It's an extremely superior computer graphics system based on high- end Amiga computers. They've used it professionally for many TV shows, the most popular of which are SeaQuest and Babylon 5. If you've ever seen a ray-tracer on your PC, that could give you an idea of what Toaster effects could be like, only picture it much faster, and with animation. The addition of Video Toaster graphics to Star Wars DOOM will improve it beyond imagination. You won't believe it even WHEN you see it! (5.3) New Sprites! This is a list of all the enemies you'll encounter in Star Wars DOOM, and which enemies they'll replace: Enemy: Replaces: Imperial Officer Former Human Stormtrooper Sergeant Biker Scout Imp Sand Person Demon Undetermined Alien Race Lost Soul Snowtrooper Cacodemon And here is a list of bosses, in order of which episode they'll be in: Boss: Replaces: Grand Moff Tarkin Cyberdemon Darth Vader Spiderdemon Emperor Palpatine Baron of Hell A few notes about the above: First, I'll explain how we decided on which enemies would be replac- ed by what. Imperial Officers are the weakest, since in the movies they are never seen with blasters and only command Star Destroyers, so they're not used to hand-to-hand (or blaster-to-blaster) combat; they'll be the most easy to kill. Stormtroopers will be the most common enemies in the game. They're slightly tougher than Imperial Officers, and carry the most common weapon (see section 5.8). Biker Scouts will be tougher than Stormtroopers and will shoot cannon fire at you. Sand People run around and stab at you with their spears. The 'Undetermined Alien Race' has, as the name implies, not been determined yet. It will be a 'generic' alien that will appear in the game both at Mos Eisley and Jabba's Palace (see section 5.7). We decided not to make a replacement for Spectres, since they're just invisible Demons, and Sand People can't make themselves invisible. So, there'll be no invisible enemies in SWDOOM. The Snow- troopers will be pretty tough, and will carry around those big mounted cannons they use in Empire. Another thing I should note is that we're going to try to keep the story as close to the movies as we can (see section 5.9), so you'll only see Sand People in A New Hope, Snowtroopers will only be in The Empire Strikes Back, and Biker Scouts will only be in Return of the Jedi. Also, they'll only be on the levels where they appeared in the movies (Sand People will only be on Tatooine, not the Death Star, etc.). Also the bosses are not going to be in the same order as they were in the original DOOM. I know Barons are the easiest of the bosses, but the AI for them was the closest to the Emperor. Trust us. It'll be cool when Palpatine is shooting lightning out of his fingertips at you. As for Tarkin and Vader, we've come to a problem with their weapons. As it is, Tarkin will shoot blasters and concussion missiles at you. Vader will have to fire a blaster at you, since the AI is programmed that way. We'll make Vader holding a lightsaber, of course, but we're sorry to say that he won't actually use it :( Of course, you can always use your lightsaber to battle him if you want (see section 5.8). :) Something else is that you should keep in mind that I'm going to be remaking every level (see section 5.7), so don't worry about things like the invisible Sand People and the bosses being out of order. I just won't put any Spectres in the game, so no invisible Sand People. I can just as easily put what should be the boss of Episode 1 as the boss of Episode 3. For your character, as we have it planned right now, you'll be Luke Skywalker. We were planning on making you be Han Solo, but we decided that Luke is really the main character of the movies, plus a lot of the places you go are based on Luke's experiences in the movies. Also, Solo wouldn't know the first thing about how to use a lightsaber, and he probably wouldn't even want to try. Another idea we came up with was having you be a generic starfighter pilot. This works well too, since it doesn't have Luke going to places and doing things that he didn't do in the movies. If this turns out to be what we do, it'll be like in Rebel Assault. You'll be a Rookie One kind of hero. All three of these sounded good, but the Luke Skywalker idea sounded the best, although the generic starfighter pilot who has the Force idea was VERY close. The Solo idea just doesn't seem to fit as well, but it's still a slight possibility if we can come up with a way to improve it. Another thing that came up was what the players would look like in DeathMatch. I should tell you that in DOOM, there's only one set of sprites for the player. The colors are just changed for the other players. We had to come up with a way to make this look okay (we didn't want your uniform to change colors, since that would look stupid). We had ideas for all three possible player possibilities. Here are the 3 possible lists for who the 4 players would be in DeathMatch: Possibility One (Han Solo): Player: Replaces: Solo with Green Stripes Green Space Marine Solo with Indigo Stripes Indigo Space Marine Solo with Brown Stripes Brown Space Marine Solo with Red Stripes Red Space Marine Possibility Two (Luke Skywalker): Player: Replaces: Luke with Green Lightsaber Green Space Marine Luke with Indigo Lightsaber Indigo Space Marine Luke with Brown Lightsaber Brown Space Marine Luke with Red Lightsaber Red Space Marine Possibility Three (Starfighter Pilot): Player: Replaces: A-wing Pilot Green Space Marine Y-wing Pilot Indigo Space Marine X-wing Pilot Brown Space Marine B-wing Pilot Red Space Marine Some expanation on the above: Possibility One - The stripes I'm talking about are the ones going down the sides of Solo's pants. This seemed like the best thing to change, since it would look really dumb to have a Solo with green clothes fighting a Solo with indigo, brown, or red clothes. Possibility Two - I know that indigo and brown are stupid colors for a lightsaber, but it was the best thing to change the colors of. Luke will just carry the lightsaber. He'll also be holding a blaster, which is what he'll shoot you with. The lightsaber will be just to tell players apart in multiplayer games. Note that the lightsaber referred to in section 5.8 will be green, regardless of which player you are. Possibility Three - Okay, so Y-wing pilots don't where indigo, and X-wing pilots where orange, not brown, but green IS what A-wing pilots where, and B-wing pilots DO where red. Brown looks more like orange than indigo, so I made X-wing pilots brown. Indigo was all that was left, so there's the Y-wing pilot. Actually, it won't matter; in the game, it'll just be Green Pilot versus Indigo Pilot versus Brown Pilot versus Red pilot. I just came up with the stuff above to fill in for the story. One thing that'll really mess this up is if when DOOM 1.3 comes out, it includes 8-player support. Then we'll have to change Possibility Three since the Rebels only have 4 starfighters. One thing that I'll have to look into when we get to the point of making the sprites for players is if we can change what colors the players are. If we can, then the Luke Skywalker idea will be a lot better. It won't really matter for the Solo one, but it'll also make the starfighter pilot idea a lot better, too. Currently, we are heavily leaning towards making the main character Luke Skywalker. It just seems to be the best idea, and it also fits the game better, too. (5.4) New Sounds! Star Wars DOOM will include an entire set of new sounds, taken directly from the Star Wars movies. The blaster fire will sound real. The other sound effects will be just like they were in the movies. Every sound in DOOM will be changed. At this point I don't think we'll be messing with the PC Speaker sounds. Who cares about them, anyway? ;) (5.5) New Music! Star Wars DOOM will have an entirely new musical score, based on John Williams' original Star Wars soundtrack. For the music, we are doing a combination of new music composed by VeeBalls and possibly some other songs taken from the file SWMUSIC.WAD, an external WAD file that changes the DOOM music to Star Wars music. [5.6] New Textures! The environment you'll be playing in in Star Wars DOOM will be true to the movies. All textures will be true to the Star Wars Universe, and most will be rendered in Video Toaster. SPalpatine has made some really great looking ray-traced Death Star textures, and is working on a few more. Frisco is working on some wall and floor textures for when you're outside, especially for Endor. Me and VeeBalls will make the rest on Toaster. (5.7) 3 New Episodes! (27 Levels!) Yes, every level in DOOM will be changed for Star Wars DOOM. Here is a complete list of every planned level: Episode 1: A New Hope Level 1 - Tatooine Surface You must battle your way through the vast desert of Tatooine, facing Stormtroopers and Tusken Raiders (Sand People) to reach Mos Eisley. Level 2 - Space Dock Fight your way through the Mos Eisley spaceport, through heavy Stormtroopers and a deadly species of aliens to reach the Millenium Falcon. Level 3 - Death Star Docking Bay Escape the Millenium Falcon and venture off through the Death Star's space dock, taking out Storm- troopers and Imperial Officers on the way. Level 4 - Death Star Corridors The corridors of the Death Star are filled with Stormtroopers just waiting to blow you away. Find your way to the detention level. Level 5 - Detention Level Break into the Death Star's main cell block to rescue the Princess. You'll be confronted by hoardes of Imperial Officers and a briagde of Storm- troopers. Secret (Level 9) - Garbage Dump Make your way through all the garbage and find your way out before you're crushed with the rest of the garbage! Level 6 - Death Star Interior Passageways Go into the core of the Death Star and fight your way past squadrons of Stormtroopers and Imperial Officers. Level 7 - Tractor Beam Find the tractor beam and shut it down to free the Falcon. Imperial Officers and Stromtroopers are guarding it, though, so have your blaster ready! Level 8 - Confontation Before you leave, you must confront the head Imperial Commander, Grand Moff Tarkin. He wears heavy armor and is an excellent shot with a blaster. Episode 2: The Empire Strikes Back Level 1 - Hoth Surface Navigate your way through the snow-bound expanses of Hoth, journeying into ice caves and battling Imperial Snowtroopers. Level 2 - Rebel Base Interior "Imperial troops have entered the base!" You must secure the base until everyone has evacuated. Fight Snowtroopers on your own turf! Level 3 - Hoth Surface (Imperial Attack) The stakes have been upped this time as you journey back onto Hoth's surface, this time with hoardes of Imperial troops scattered everywhere! Secret (Level 9) - Ice Cave You've stumbled into an ice cave on Hoth while flee- ing the Rebel base. Discover the Force and recharge your weapons before continuing with the battle! Level 4 - AT-AT and Imperial Shuttle Interior An Imperial Walker has been loaded onto a cargo shuttle. You must find your way out of the hijacked Walker and into the shuttle, battling the crew of Officers and Stormtroopers. Level 5 - Imperial Star Destroyer You have infiltrated a Star Destroyer and in this level you must battle Officers, Stormtroopers, and Snowtroopers as you find your way through it. Level 6 - Dagobah Surface You must fight your way through the murky swampland of Dagobah and battle strange aliens, as well as the fearsome Darth Vader in the cave. Level 7 - Cloud City Attack The Imperials have invaded Cloud City! Now you're on a cat-and-mouse chase through the corridors of the mining facility, fighting Stormtroopers and Imperial Officers. Level 8 - Confontation You must find your way through a maze of equipment and Stormtroopers before confronting the Dark Lord of the Sith himself: Darth Vader! Episode 3: Return of the Jedi Level 1 - Back on Tatooine Luke: "I used to live here, you know." Han: "You're gonna die here, you know. Kind of convenient." Back on your homeland of Tatooine, fight your way to Jabba the Hutt's palace to rescue Han. Level 2 - Jabba's Palace Fight off alien species and Imperials while trying to stay alive long enough to save your friends. Level 3 - Sail Barge After your outrage in Jabba's palace, he has ordered your death by the mighty Sarlac. R2-D2 has constructed a new lightsaber for you, so grab it and start fending off aliens and more Imperials, or become Sarlac food! Secret (Level 9) - Back on Dagobah You've come back to Dagobah to find your mentor, Yoda, dying. After watching him die and learning the truth about your family from Obi-Wan, recharge your weapons and return to the Alliance. Level 4 - Endor Surface You've arrived at the moon of Endor to be greeted by a host of Biker Scouts! Fight your way towards the shield generator. Level 5 - Search for Leia After returning to your squad from fighting the Biker Scouts, you find that Leia is missing! Return into the forests and search for her! Level 6 - Ewok Village While looking for Leia you are captured by a tribe of Ewoks! Level 7 - Shield Generator Now that you've finally found the shield generator, fight your way through Imperials and shut it down so the Rebel fleet can launch it's assault on the Death Star! Level 8 - Final Confrontation Having realized that you must face your destiny, you turn yourself in to the Imperials. Taken aboard the Death Star, you must now battle Emperor Palpatine himself! (5.8) New Weapons! All the weapons in DOOM will also be changed in Star Wars DOOM to weapons from the Star Wars Universe. The planned weapons and what they replace are: Weapon: Replaces: Vibroblade Wookiee Fist :) Light saber Chainsaw Blaster Pistol Solo's Blaster Shotgun Rapid-fire Blaster Chaingun Cannon Rocket Launcher Jedi Lightning Plasma Rifle The Force BFG-9000 In the final release, the names of the weapons will be true to the Star Wars Universe. We'll look up actual blasters and such in the Star Wars Roleplaying Game (2nd Edition), so it'll be authentic. The Cannon referenced above refers to one seen on Hoth, in Empire. Rebel soldiers use them. Again, the name will be changed once we find out what it is. Thanks to Sandman II for this idea, as well as the Vibroblade idea. (5.9) New Story! Nothing against id, but the story in DOOM sucked. It really did. Don't get me wrong, I love the game. However, you'll be happy to know that the greatest story of all time will be the basis for Star Wars DOOM. It will start in Episode 1, A New Hope, and follow the course of Star Wars. Then, in Episode 2, The Empire Strikes Back, you follow the story- line of The Empire Strikes Back. Finally, in Episode 3, Return of the Jedi, you live out the roles of the characters in Return of the Jedi. We're obviously going to have to change some of the story, since you can't fly around in ships in DOOM (although it would be fun :) We will try and follow the story of the movies as closely as we can. Compare it to Rebel Assault, how it followed the basic plot of the movies, only through the eyes of a different character. (5.10) Best Of All - It's FREE! Yep, you read right! Star Wars DOOM will be absolutely free! This is for a couple of reasons. First, it'd be illegal for us to make money off of some one else's creations. Second, even if it was legal, we wouldn't want to take money for it anyway. We are doing this for our own enjoyment, and we felt that we could share it with the rest of the computer populace. <> <> <> <> Section [6] <> What Do I Need To Run SWDOOM? <> <> <> <> <> (6.1) Minimum Requirements First of all, you'll of course need DOOM. Star Wars DOOM requires the registered version of DOOM, since it replaces nearly everything, including registered-only things, so the installation won't work properly on the shareware version. If you don't have the registered version, definitely call 1-800-IDGAMES now and order. It's well worth it. As for machine requirements, id says you'll need a 386 with at least 4 megs of RAM and a VGA monitor. If you want to play DeathMatch or Cooperative mode (yes, Star Wars DOOM with support multi-player games!) you'll need an IPX network for 2/3/4 players, and a 9600 bps or better modem for two-player modem-to-modem games. (6.2) Recommended The most obvious thing is a sound card. A Sound Blaster Pro or 100% compatible is the best for DOOM. A Gravis UltraSound is also very good. Not only will the sounds be a lot better, but DOOM also has some cool sound techniques and on a stereo sound card you can tell where the enemies are thanks to the nice panning effects. Even better, if you've got a GUS, DOOM has 3D sound support, so not only will you be able to tell where the enemies are, you'll literally hear them coming behind you! Another thing is memory (RAM). DOOM doesn't care what kind of memory it is, so just go for total RAM. At least 8 megs is good, but 12 or 16 would be the best. If you don't have access to a network and/or your modem is less than 9600, you can get a cheap null-modem cable from Radio Shack and hook up two computers to play a two-player game. Star Wars DOOM will be best for one-player games, but multiplayer will definitely be supported, so take advantage of it! <> <> <> <> <> Section *7* <> Info About the Screen Shots <> <> <> <> <> *7.1* What They're Of The three screen shots that are archived with this document (SWDOOM1.GIF, SWDOOM2.GIF, and SWDOOM3.GIF) are pictures of very preliminary parts of Star Wars DOOM. We're calling this SWDOOM Alpha v0.1 since it's the first version of SWDOOM. The first screen shot, SWDOOM1.GIF, is of Episode 1, on Tatooine. Notice the sky texture and the alpha Stormtrooper sprite. The next one, SWDOOM2.GIF, is of Episode 2, on Hoth. This is our favorite sky texture. Check out the Star Destroyer in the sky! The Stormtrooper is the same as SWDOOM1.GIF, since that's the only sprite we've got done. The third screen shot, SWDOOM3.GIF, also has the same Stormtrooper sprite, and has a forest background for Episode 3 on Endor. We're thinking of changing this background to make it filled with more trees. *7.2* Miscellaneous Info There's a few things that you should know about these screen shots before you go thinking that this is what the final SWDOOM will look like. First of all, we'll be changing the weapons, so those aren't what they'll be like in the final release. Second, as I said above, we'll probably change the Endor sky texture. Third, the Stormtrooper sprite is alpha, meaning we're not sure if we'll be using it yet. If we can make better sprites with Video Toaster, we'll use those. As it is, the ones we have now look pretty darn good, so we might end up using them in the final release. Thanks to Pinder2 for the Stormtrooper sprites. Fourth, the levels that are shown here are just ones that I threw together so that you could get a good look at the skies, so don't think that this is what they are going to be like. Fifth, we didn't show any of the textures by SPalpatine in these, as well as a few other things that we've done, because we want some things to be a surprise! I did include a title shot for this, but that's purely premotional. It's not the one we're using in the game. <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> Section [8] <> Closing <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> (8.1) Copyright Info In case you didn't know, neither Star Wars nor the game DOOM is our idea. The good folks at Lucasfilm, under the almighty George Lucas's direction, created the Star Wars trilogy. The cool guys at id Software made the excellent game DOOM. All we did was put the two together. All other copyrights are acknowledged. [8.2] How To Contact Us You can reach VeeBalls through America Online. You can reach me at any of the many bulletin boards that I call here in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I've finally gotten an America Online account, so you can reach me there, now, too. My screen name is Salporin. You can also reach both myself and VeeBalls through the Internet, me at 'Salporing@aol.com' and VeeBalls at 'VeeBalls@aol.com'. Good news! A very fine BBS in California has agreed to become the Official Star Wars DOOM Distribution Site!! The BBS is a part of a board called The Records Department BBS. There's a 'subdivision' of this BBS called Star Wars Central. We couldn't have found a more appropriate place for our distro site. The SysOp's name is Skip Shayotovich. You can reach Star Wars Central at (510) 426-0470. They will always be the first place to have the newest versions of this Document, and Star Wars DOOM itself, when it comes out. You can also send e-mail to me at SW Central (my name is Mike Chesnut). [8.3] Update Information This is the second revision of the Star Wars DOOM Informational Document. You can tell quickly which sections have been added or updated in this version of the SWDOOM Info Doc. Sections whose numbers are enclosed in () are the same or almost the same as they were in the previous version. Sections enclosed in [] have been significantly changed since the last version, and sections enclosed in ** are new in this revision. (This idea came from Hank Leukart, from his "Official" DOOM FAQs.) I've decided to add to this section the update info from each version, so here's the complete SWDOOM Info Doc history: SWDOOM Doc v1.0: May 10, 1994 - Initial release. SWDOOM Doc v1.1: May 20, 1994 - Info about Video Toaster graphics added; many slight changes. Updated and new sections are now indicated by [] and ** (respectively) around the section numbers. SWDOOM Doc 1.2: June 1, 1994 - We now have an Official Distribution Site! (Star Wars Central, 510-426-0470) Changed info about the final version, regarding the fact that SWDOOM is no longer going to be solely an external WAD file. Frisco is helping now, as well as SPalpatine, Guyver, and Sandman II. Updated info about weapons and made a complete list of planned levels. Added Section 6 and completely rewrote section 5.3. Reformatted entire document so now it looks nice when you print it. SWDOOM Doc 1.3: June 9, 1994 - Updated info about who's helping out, and what they're doing. Added my AOL account info. We felt that now we're far enough in making SWDOOM to include 3 screen shots with this version. Take a look at them! Added Section 7 to tell about the screen shots. Made a new title, taken from the Bad Guide to Star Wars, by Brandon Gillespie. Many other miscellaneous minor revisions. This will probably be the last version of the Info Doc for a while, since we want to start concentrating on the game! (8.4) Final Words I'll release this Document every time something significant in the process of developing Star Wars DOOM happens. You can find the newest versions at our Official Distribution Site, Star Wars Central (510-426-0470). That's all I have! I hope you're looking forward to SWDOOM as much as I am! In the meantime, go out and get some friends together for a 4-player DOOM DeathMatch showdown! -------------------------------------------------------------------------- M A Y T H E F O R C E B E W I T H Y O U ! --------------------------------------------------------------------------
