Tile Set Name: GAZI.TIL Subject: Oriental Card Game Faces Created by: Paul J. Gillespie Description: Above and beyond the game of Mah Jongg, there are other games from the orient that are as challenging and equally fun to play. In particular, there is a set of cards that goes under several names. In Japan, the game is called Gazi. In Korea, there are variations under the names of Minhato, Yukbek and Go-Stop. This tile set encompasses some of the pictures that are on the card faces. The games plays similiar to Go Fish or rummy, and are often used in some very heated gambling sessions. There are 48 cards in the deck, each separated in a suit of 4. In Gazi, each suit represents a month of the year. For example, the cards in positions 35-38 are called Gazi, they represent the month of December and they have the distinction of also having the only JOKER card (the card that is red and resembles an open door). This tile set is dedicated to the memory of my father-in-law Shigeto Kimura of Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada, who was a fierce Gazi player who liked nothing better than ruining everyone else's hand and taking great pleasure in doing so. In living 92 years, that was more fun than trying to win the game himself! Cards 1 - 34 are random drawings of some of the available cards. Gazi Suit (replaces suit of winds) Cards 35 - 38 Card Titles (replaces suit of flowers) Cards 39 - 42.
