This is the first release of AutoKey, the big 1.0. AutoKey is an auto-save program for Windows, meaning it protects the data in your Windows programs from power failures, user error, or the ever-present UAEs, by telling those other Winapps to save their work periodically. AutoKey can also send other keystrokes or menu commands. AutoKey was developed on a limited budget, so only a subset of Windows programs were used as targets. However, the basic approach is sound and has worked for every Windows program tried (dozens). Please notify me if AutoKey doesn't work against a particular program. The distribution archive of AutoKey should contain the following files: AUTOKEY.EXE the program file AUTOLIB.DLL run-time support dynamic link library AUTOKEY.HLP help file REGISTER.TXT registration form, "C:>print register.txt" MANUAL.WRI Windows Write version of the User's Manual README.TXT this file If the archive you just opened doesn't contain ALL of these files (and no others), DON'T USE IT. A clean copy can be obtained from the address below. It is suggested you place these files in a single directory (C:\AUTOKEY for example). Run AutoKey initially from Program Manager with "File/Run C:\AUTOKEY\AUTOKEY". See the manual for more installation instructions. AutoKey is a shareware program. You are granted permission to use it free of charge for 30 days, after which you must either stop using it or register your copy. You are also free to copy it and pass along copies to associates, as long as a) it is not altered in any way and b) no fee is charged greater than the cost of the media used. Shareware is NOT free software, it's a way to try before you buy, and also a way to get quality software at below-retail prices. I hope you agree AutoKey is quality software. If, after the end of your evaluation of AutoKey, you decide NOT to use it, a quick note would be appreciated describing your reasons why, and any other comments you may have. This will allow me to improve AutoKey. Lynn Wallace Simple Software PO Box 1465 Salt Lake City, UT 84110-1465 CompuServe: 70242,101 ASP application pending. AutoKey is supplied as is.
