10 June 1992 This is Version 1.02 of RENAMETT. It differs from Version 1.01 only in one respect. TrueType fonts contain a table called the 'head' table. In this table there is a field called 'checkSumAdjustment' the value of which is a modified checksum covering the entire font file. Version 1.01 didn't recalculate this value to reflect the changes to the file resulting from the operation of RENAMETT; Version 1.02 does. The fact that after processing by RENAMETT 1.01 the file has an incorrect value in the 'checkSumAdjustment' field doesn't interfere with the use of the font by Windows, since Windows ignores the 'checkSumAdjustment' value and the other checksums present in TrueType fonts. If you have already processed fonts using RENAMETT 1.01, there is therefore no need to process them again with RENAMETT 1.02 simply in order to correct the 'checkSumAdjustment' value, so long as the only use you make of the fonts is as Windows fonts. If you use fonts modified by RENAMETT 1.01 with other software, however, it is possible that you may run into a program that does pay attention to the checksums and objects to the incorrect value in the 'checkSumAdjustment' field. If that happens, you should discard the font created by RENAMETT 1.01 and generate a new font with modified names by running RENAMETT 1.02 on the original font file.
