Gorin's Organiser for Windows v3.00 - 27th July 1995 "Visualise your life!" Gorin's Organiser is a Personal Information Manager capable of storing diary information, notes, addresses, to do items, call logging and much more. It is aimed at home users, and people either in small businesses or traditional office situations. This is not intended for Network or "WorkGroup" use, but does support multiple users (e.g. separate people each having their own organiser). Shareware vendors, BBS Sysops and anyone considering distributing Gorin's Organiser for Windows, should read VENDOR.WRI. This software is produced by a member of the Association of Shareware Professionals. For a full statement regarding this, please refer to the main index of the help file after installation. Full documentation for the shareware release is contained within the help file, available as an icon after installation. Registration brings a printed user guide, with the exception of the US and Canada where it is an optional extra. INSTALLATION Run the A:SETUP.EXE program from Program or File Manager to install Organiser for Windows. If you do not use Program Manager, or the Start Menu in Windows 95, please add the program ORGWIN.EXE to your application launchpad. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS Microsoft Windows 3.1 or later running in Standard or Enhanced mode. A display driver capable of 16 or more colours. A hard disk with approximately 1MB available. The Organiser needs about 600k free memory to run. This product is Windows 95 aware and has been tested on both Windows 3.1 and 95. Also compatible with Windows for Workgroups, NT and OS/2 2.1 plus Warp. The Organiser can take advantage of the following pieces of hardware: WAVE sound device enabling playback (for Alarm) WAVE sound device enabling recording (for Voice Notes) Printer Modem on COM1 or COM2 (for telephone dialling) You will need to enable the Modem and Wave devices through the Organiser's Options dialogue box. WARNING: The Organiser runs fine with any number of colours equal to 16 or above, but will not display correctly on displays with fewer than 16 colours. If you are using a 2 colour mode please switch to a 16 colour mode. Specifically, if you are using the VGA Mono driver, switch to the standard VGA driver before you start to use the Organiser - the VGA driver is quite capable of running on mono-VGA displays and provides a much better picture quality than the standard VGAMONO driver. "PLEASE DON'T MESS UP MY WINDOWS DIRECTORY!" We wont - the only file placed permanently in your Windows directory will be: ORGWIN.INI - Configuration File The files CTL3DV2.DLL and BWCC.DLL will also be copied to your Windows directory if, and only if, you do not already have copies in there or in your Windows\System directory. Most modern programs use one or both of these, so it is quite likely you already have copies. Temporarily during installation, the file SPRSETUP.EXE will be placed in your Windows directory, but will be removed as soon as the Organiser is run. Full disinstallation information may be found in the UNINSTAL.WRI file, created as an icon after installation. UPGRADING If you are upgrading from Gorin's Organiser for DOS, it is essential that you follow the instructions printed on the "Upgrading from Gorin's Organiser for DOS" sheet. If you do not have this sheet, please send a stamped addressed envelope to NGS for a free copy. If you already have a Registered version of Gorin's Organiser for DOS, you can upgrade to the Registered Windows version for £19.95 by enclosing a printout of your REG.VGA file with your order. VERY VERY IMPORTANT: If you have been using Gorin's Organiser for DOS (either registered or unregistered) or Gorin's Organiser for Windows v2.0 to v2.21 (unregistered), YOU MUST USE a registered version to upgrade to v3.0. The Shareware version of Organiser 3.0 will refuse to start if it detects old datafiles. For full info telephone or email. WINDOWS 95 NOTES Sound Recorder: The Windows 95 sound recorder is not SOUNDREC.EXE but SNDREC32.EXE. If you are using Organiser 3 with Windows 95 please ensure that you change the sound recorder to this in the Options dialogue. If the controls on the Tabbed dialogue box disappear after selecting a new sound recorder, hit OK then re-open the Options box - this appears to be due to a Windows 95 display driver problem and affects a few machines. Modem Dialling: You may need to use the "Compatibility Dial" option if you modem fails to dial. Unfortunately, this restricts you to COM1 and COM2 ports. Buttons, Check boxes are Windows 3.1 style: If this happens, you have an old copy of CTL3DV2.DLL on your system. Close down all programs so just the desktop and start menu are available, select Start/Find/Files and Folders and enter CTL3DV2.DLL. When available, highlight all the listed files, right click and Delete them, then start the Organiser's SETUP program from your floppy disk or BBS archive and press "Abort Installation". An up-to-date CTL3DV2.DLL will now have been installed. NOTES Please see the help topic "Commonly Asked Questions" before phoning for support.
