CARO needs two players, a pen or pencil and a paper with grids (one player writes an X and the other writes an O). But in this design, I use different color marbles instead of X and O. This due to make the CARO program unique from other program, if any. The players must try to put the marble in an unoccupied square, creating a row of 5, 7 or 9 marbles in a row. Dimension The CARO board is set to 150 x 150 squares. Objective The object of this game is to get 5, 7 or 9 marbles in a row before the opponent does. It can be done horizontally, vertically or diagonally. NEW button or INSERT key - Clears the CARO play board, Number of Moves and Number of Replays but it does not reset the Score Board. OPTION button or HOME key - Displays CARO Option window. -The first panel is for selection of Number of Players? -One player, you play against the Computer. -Two player, you play again your opponent. -The second panel is for the selection of color for Player One. -The third panel is for the selection of color for Player Two or the Computer. -The forth panel is for the selection of how many marbles are needed in a row order to win a game. -OK button is to accept the selection. -Cancel button is to cancel the selection. RESET button or DELETE key - Clears the CARO play board and resets Number of Moves, Number of Replays and Score Board to zero. Enables OPTION button and LEVEL choice box. REPLAY button or BACKSPACE key - Replays the previous move only. HELP Button or F1 key - Displays Help window. QUIT button or ESC key - Terminate CARO. LEVEL - Selects level from beginner, intermediate, advance or expert. SHOW WIN 5/7/9 button or SHIFT ? keys - Shows where are the five, seven or nine squares in a row. ABOUT CARO button or F2 key - Displays the designer. SUGGESTION button or F3 key - Asks for your comments. To select how many player -Clicks on the empty circle (radio button) on panel 1. To select a color -Default, Player One is red and Player Two or Computer is blue. -You can not choose blue for Player One because Player Two or Computer already chose it. You must choose a different color. There is a way that you can choose blue by select a different color for Player Two or Computer (green or black) but can not choose red because red is already chosen by Player One. Then choose blue for Player One. Now you can choose red for Player Two or Computer. For another word, the color can only choose by one player only. The program puts a lock to this matter because if both choose red then you or your opponent can not distinct who is which, but the Computer can. To move around -Player One uses the mouse. -Player Two uses the mouse or Left, Right, Up or Down arrow key. If the Player Two is using Left, Right, Up or Down arrow key. Notice that the marble has a cross on when its is moving along in the direction of the arrow key that the Player Two pressed. To select a desire square -Player One clicks on the left mouse. -Player Two has two option, either clicks on the right mouse button or presses ENTER or RETURN key. If you press ENTER or RETURN key, notice that the marble with a cross on it is replaced with a marble without a cross. To select how many marbles in a row wins the game -Clicks on the empty circle (radio button) on panel 4. How the Computer keeps track of the score -The Computer is keeping track of how many games the Player One, Player Two or the Computer has won. You must continue to play until the Computer displays a winning message. Which means that the Computer found the number of marbles (5/7/9) on the CARO board. It will add a point to a Score Board of the winner. If you don't then the Score Board will not change. How the Computer keeps track of how many replays -You can only can replay the previous move only. The Computer will add a replay into the Number of Replays depend on the player. If the Computer win and you like to replay that move. Press replay button or press BACKSPACE key, notice that the Score Board is subtracted by one from the Computer Score Board and the marbles with a cross on it is replaced to a normal marble. Keeping track of the moves -CARO adds all the moves of each player into Number of Moves board depending on the player. -When you start to play, notice that the OPTION button and LEVEL choice box are disabled. Which means you are not allowed to change LEVEL and OPTION If you want to change then press RESET button to start everything over.
