**************** ** Mini Clock ** **************** Version 2.01 Copyright © Rob Gale, June 1995 +--------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | PLEASE SEE FILE MCLOCK.WRI FOR A FORMATTED VERSION OF THESE INSTRUCTIONS | +--------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Overview ======== Mini Clock is intented as an unobtrusive addition to your desktop. I designed it because I found that the Clock that comes standard with Windows took up too much of my valuable desktop space, and didn't offer enough features. Features: - Hugs any corner of your screen - Takes up no more room than needed (depending on font size choosen) - Font and colours completely customizable - Date/Time formats completely customizable - Can show free resources and free memory (constantly updated) - On request, Mini Clock will always 'Stay on Top' - Can be used to change the date or time - Has virtually unlimited number of alarms, at various intervals, which can generate sounds (beeps or WAVE files), display messages, and/or run a program Requirements: - Windows 3.1 or greater - Mouse - You must have a copy of VBRUN300.DLL (available from most BBS's) Installation ============ Real simple. Copy these files into an empty subdirectory on your hard drive. MCLOCK.EXE the program file MCLOCK.WRI this documentation file CMDIALOG.VBX required 'extension' file (can also be in Windows\System directory) SPIN.VBX required 'extension' file (can also be in Windows\System directory) VBRUN300.DLL (not included--available on most BBS's) copy to Windows\System. Create a new item for MCLOCK.EXE in your STARTUP group in Program Manager. Instructions ============ The use of the clock is really quite straight forward. But I'll go over the basics. LEFT mouse button (short push) - Switch the display between one line and two lines. This allows you to have certain information always displayed (eg. the time and free resources) and, on-demand, view other information (eg. the date and free memory) LEFT mouse button (long push) - Quickly switch to another corner of the screen (or "you're in my way, move it!") RIGHT mouse button - Activates the pop-up menu, as explained below. Change Font... - Change Mini Clock's font, size, and colour. Change Background Colour... - Change Mini Clock's background colour. (Note: Depending on your display driver, some colours may not look good as backgrounds.) Change Formats... - Customize the display of the time, date, free resources, memory, etc... * Time: "09:46:43 PM", "23:46", or anything else! * Date: "Sunday, June 1, 1969", "6/01/69", or anything else! * Other:"9:46 pm 69% 22.5 MB Free", etc... For more details press the Help button in this dialog. "When in doubt, try it...it might work" Change Corner - Lets you select which corner of the screen you want Mini Clock in. Change Date/Time... - Allows you to change your computer's date and time (via Control Panel) Set Alarms... - Set or disable alarms (explained in more detail below) Always on Top - If checked, Mini Clock will always stay visible Save Settings on Exit - If checked, Mini Clock will save all settings automatically when it is closed Save Settings Now - For those who just can't wait...will save the settings right away. About Mini Clock - Advertising, credits, addresses, etc. Close Mini Clock - For those who really don't care what time it is... (exits Mini Clock) How to set an alarm ------------------- Mini Clock's alarms are quite powerful, yet I've tried to make them easy-to-use. 1) Select Set Alarms from the pop-up menu 2) Select either Add or Edit from the Alarm List 3) Type a brief description of the alarm (optional) 4) Select the frequency (or 'one time only' if you don't want it to repeat) 5) Enter the time and date for the alarm (hint: press "Today/Now" to quickly enter current time and date...a real time-saver) 6) Select what the alarm should do. Select any or all of Sound, Message or Run Program 7) Select OK, then Close to finish up Watch the help line at the bottom of the Alarm Settings screen for reminders. Also, if you want to quickly disable the alarms, uncheck the box in the Alarm List screen. Troubleshooting --------------- If you run into trouble, try the following steps. - Check your MCLOCK.INI file (holds font settings, etc.) for unusual values, or simply delete MCLOCK.INI to reset the options to their defaults. MCLOCK.INI is usually in your C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory - Try deleting MCLOCK.DAT (holds alarm settings). MCLOCK.DAT is usually in your C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory. - Try re-installing the program, including all files. - EMail or mail me with a description of the problem.
