Icon Juice - Icon extractor and - saver ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Windows 95 has some very nice icons, but you only see a few, unless you peek into the files... That's what I wanted to do, so I made this little application. Maybe you can use it too. It's very easy to use: run the program, pick one or more files from Explorer and drop them. If you want to save an icon, select it, type a name and click 'Save'. That's all... Icon Juice will check all files for icons. Often the following executable files contains icons: *.exe, *.dll, *.drv. But Icon Juice will also show bitmaps (*.bmp, *.dib) in icon size, but they cannot be saved as icons. (If the bitmap is very small/very large the display may not be good). It displays cursor files (*.cur, *.ani) as well, but you probably prefer to view these files in Explorer. The program was made with Visual Basic 3.0, and it works with Windows 95. You can even use long long filenames. Files are saved in directory 'C:\Icons'. If you prefer another directory, Open 'SaveIcon.ini' - a sample file - in Notepad and edit it. If you're a programmer... read this: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- It's easy to extract an icon from a file and show it - just use the 'ExtrcatIcon' function from the 'Shell.dll'. But it's harder to save it into an *.icon file. You must know the structure of an icon file. To learn more about it, see Microsoft Windows Software Development Kit, volume 4 (Resources). In case you're a Visual Basic programmer, see the Win31wh.hlp - supplied with Visual Basic Prof. Edition.
