ReNameIt95 REQUIRES Win95 operating system.  It may run on NT but I havn't tested it.

This was a quick little app that I threw together to overcome some of the shortcomings of
Explorer's interface.  Explorer, only allows you to rename a single file.  Boo! Such a pain.
And DOS doesn't care about lower or upper case.  Not good either.

The project I was working on was some web pages.  Now with Win95, you can have long
filenames and all Win95 utilities know it.  I needed to rename an entire batch of GIFs and
JPGs all to lowercase so they would match what was on the UNIX web site.  I tried this in
DOS but it just ignores case.  Next was Explorer, it would let me do the case but the idea
if 2-clicking on over 100 files and re-typing the names didn't appeal to me either.  Enter
ReNameIt95.  You can browse your drives and select an entire group or just a single name to
convert to all lower-case, all upper-case, or a mixed case name.  ReNameIt95 will also allow
you to change the file extentions for an entire batch also.  Explorer lets you change the
extention, but it complains about each one that you do with a warning.

ReNameIt95 is completely compatible with all DOS 8.3 and Win95 long filenames.  There is NO
protection against changing critical file's extentions so user beware.  I have tested it
on a 486 with 4m ram and it ran fine.  Assume lower machines will too.  It isn't a real
resource hog.  There is little error checking so you may get errors trying to rename a
program that is currently running.  This happens rarely.

This disk contains only the executable program.  You will also need the Visual Basic 4.0
runtime files generally available as VB4032.ZIP.  This file contains the VB40032.DLL that is
required by ReNameIt95.

Installation is simple.  Make sure you have installed the runtime library for the 32bit version of
Visual Basic 4.0 then simply run SETUP.EXE from the floppy (or where you unzipped it to if
you got it off of a BBS).  You can also use Win95's Add/Remove programs feature in control
panel.  There is also an UNinstall feature.  It can be uninstalled using the Add/Remove
control panel app.

After installation, you will have an Icon in your Start Menu/Programs folder.  I would
suggest copying a bactch of files from any directory into a tempory one to play with.  This
way you can piddle with the settings in ReNameIt95 to see what the results are without
risking any critical files.  Currenyly ReNameIt95 changes the names of the files in place,
that is, no copies are made.  I am working on a version that you can supply an additional
path to move/copy the files to with their new names.  This will be called MoveIt95 when I
get it finished.
