1.2 Meg to 360 Meg Hardware Wars Eric H. Frankel Users of the IBM-PCAT and AT compatibles may be familiar with the lack of downward compatibility for the 1.2 Meg floppy drive. Files created with this drive cannot be read using the older 360 K floppy drive. This can create a problem for a firm owning computers which sport different types of drives. A solution was suggested to me which I have not had the opportunity to test, but certainly seems worth a whirl. With a copy of PC or MS-DOS in your A: drive (or using an appropriate path to DOS on your fixed disk) format a diskette on the machine with the 360 K drive using the eight sector, 320 K, switch for the format command. (ex. FORMAT B:/8 ) Put this diskette in the 1.2 Meg floppy drive of the other computer and try copying a file to it. This trick may allow the 360 K drive to read the file. Since, I haven't tested this myself yet due to a lack of AT, I would appreciate feedback on the success of this method.
