C A L L B A C K D O O R CALBACK v1.2 08/10/90 CallBack Verification Door for GAP BBS (C) Copyright 1989-90, Rob Brun Hot Tips for use of CallBack Door! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Here is a list of "hot tips" I have received from either my beta testers or registered users. Through trial and error sysops have come up with some ingenious ways to run the door as well as noticed a few common user misconceptions. I will try to update this list with each release to help others who may want to stream line their own CallBack Door setup. 1. Some users try to set their comm program to HOST mode to receive the callback. If you notice this you may want to edit one of the info screens to suggest otherwise. 2. If you are one who doesn't actually use all the info you extract from the new user in the form of NEWQUEST, it is recommended that you make use of a shorter NEWQUEST. One which simply gets the users name and then sends them through the door might suffice. You may also choose not to ask ANY questions and just use NEWQUEST as a means of displaying extra new user info and then just send them straight through. 3. Make sure that your GAP configuration allows the new user to enter a door. It is suggested that you set your primary door access level to 1 below your new user level and then use DOORS.DAT to specify the higher levels. 4. Keep in mind that the door will allow multiple copies of most of the information displays. 5. The enhanced version of GAPPACK (for registered door users) will NOT be able to pack out any names that have been deleted manually by the sysop. If you wish to pack out users who have failed verification, you may want to run GAPPACK with a low security level indicated. This way it will protect your regular users but delete the others in both you GAP database and the doors. An example: If your unverified level was set to 10 and you wanted to delete all users at that level, you can use these parameters with GAPPACK. GAPPACK C:\GAP\MAIN\USERS.DAT U Y 1 11 This would purge all users with a level less then 11 who haven't called in the last day. The Y could be a N if you didn't want to delete you locked out users. 6. Most of the users of CallBack have found it desirable to set up the door to allow call back verification of ALL users regardless of long distance or zone status. In the case of my own board this has at the most only cost me an extra 5 or 6 dollars a month. 7. If you wish to allow people NOT to enter CallBack, it is a good idea to ask them, "Do you wish to use CallBack Door for automatic upgrade?(Y/N)" in the NEWQUEST Script. This would allow the user to try CallBack at a later time or request a manual upgrade. It might be late at night when they call and they might not want the phone to ring or they may be calling from a switch network that would not allow CallBack to work. If they answer No, they don't want to use CallBack, force them to leave a comment.
