Programme Title:  METROCATE

Detailed Program Description:

     METROCATE performs all common (and many unusual)
     measurement unit conversions using a large and growing file of
     measurement units.  The user may add, delete or change any of the
     conversions provided to meet any special purposes.  There are 24
     unit types catered for.  Among these are length, mass, time,
     temperature, volume, pressure, power, energy and torque. 
     Documentation is provided in a separate DOC file and as a menu
     HELP option.

     METROCATE is a handy units reference for teachers, researchers,
     scientists and engineers.  It is planned to enhance the reference
     utility by including text descriptive material about each unit.

     Registered users will receive the latest version with additional (over
     700 in total) conversion units and notification of major updates.  A
     registration form printing utility is included in the programme.

Who is the intended user:

     Any person including teachers, researchers, scientists, handymen
     and engineers interested in converting measurements from one
     system to another or anyone interested in measurements mentioned
     in ancient literature.

If this is an update, improvements over old version:

     Greatly enhanced user interface allowing easier selection of units
     and use of a mouse.

Unique features of this program:

     Other programs I know of with similar objectives have either poor
     display characteristics or have a very limited range of available
     conversions.
Program capacity or limitations:

     The types of conversion factors are limited to 24 at present but the
     number of conversion factors available is increasing as information
     is added to the data file.  Types will be increased if required by
     users. A handbook and the latest file of conversion factors is
     provided to registered users.

     A non-mouse version of the program is provided for those who
     prefer that.

How to start the program:

     Place disk in drive and type 'METROCAT'.
     For non-mouse version type 'METROMSE'.

What is the registration fee?:

     US$20 or the equivalent in local currency.

Materials or services that come with registration:

     The latest version of METROCATE, any additions to the
     conversion file, a printed handbook, technical support and advice of
     major enhancements.
