Disk No: 2272 Disk Title: 4ZIP, 4EDIT & XDIR PC-SIG Version: S1.2 Program Title: 4ZIP Author Version: 2.01 Author Registration: $15.00 (plus $3.00 S&H) Special Requirements: 4DOS and PKZIP. 4ZIP is a utility for 4DOS. Used with the PKWare file-compression program PKZIP, it save 4DOS file descriptions along with the files as they are compressed. The included program 4UNZIP, calls PKUnzip, and restores the descriptions to 4DOS as each file is uncompressed. Select files to Zip or Unzip from a full-screen list with extended wildcards, like 4DOS. Works with all versions of 4DOS. Also look at companion utility, 4EDIT. Program Title: 4Edit Author Version: 1.10 Author Registration: $15.00 (plus $3.00 S&H) Special Requirements: 4DOS. 4EDIT is a full-screen editor for 4DOS file descriptions. It is much more convenient than the 4DOS DESCRIBE command because you can see the descriptions for all selected files at one time. Create or edit descriptions for any grouping of files using multiple filenames and extended wildcards, like 4DOS. Works with all versions of 4DOS. Look for the companion utility, 4ZIP also. Program Title: XDIR Author Version: 3.02 Author Registration: $25.00 Special Requirements: None. XDIR is a commented directory utility that replaces the DOS DIR command. With XDIR you can attach a descriptive comment of up to 65 characters to each file. The comment will appear in the directory display. Unlike other programs, XDIR makes sure that comments will stay with your files when you COPY, RENAME or MOVE them. Version 3.0 can RUN programs from the directory list and supports executable extensions. The run feature (e.g., XDIR /r *.exe) permits the user to select one or more entries from the directory list, and run them. The program prompts for program parameters. Also, XDIR will run other programs on files selected from the directory list. For example, XDIR /rlist *.doc would list all of the .doc files, allow the user to select from them, and then list each of the selected files. Finally, XDIR supports executable extensions. With proper setup, it will recognize the appropriate application to call for a given file extension. A group of additional utilities is supplied to registered users. These include XDZIP and XDUNZIP, which automate inclusion of XDIR comments in PkWare ZIP files and restores them on unzipping. XDCount and XDUpdate keep track of the number of times your files have been accessed, as well as the date of last use.
