OS/2 2.0 Service Pack Withdrawn On Tuesday, IBM released a "service pack" for OS/2 2.0 that contains a number of bug fixes, as well as an updated 32 bit graphics engine. OS/2 Information Services recommends that you do ** NOT ** install the service pack at this time. Although some significant bugs are fixed, the service pack may introduce some new problems on certain machines. Until we have determined the causes (and corrections if required) for these reports, we will not continue distribution. If you already have a copy, please do not redistribute until advised. It is not possible to remove the pack once it has been installed; if it causes you problems, you will need to reinstall OS/2. 10-23-92 Subject: IBM OS/2 ServicePak Update IBM made a ServicePak driver available internally on October 20. We have since received feedback on this driver, and we are in the process of assessing those reports. The feedback on code stability and fix assessment has been excellent. The enhancements which have been suggested are primarily in the areas of installation and documentation. The ServicePak will be made generally available when the testing of these changes is complete. We would like to thank all those who provided feedback, and we look forward to your continued participation in IBM early release programs. **************************************************************************** 10-22-92 Subject: OS/2 Service Pack Release Information The Service Pack for OS/2 2.0 is not officially released yet. When the Service Pack is released and available on this BBS we will post the information in the BBS NEWS. **************************************************************************** 10-22-92 Subject: OS/2 2.0 Pre-release 32-bit Graphics Engine and Windows OS/2 3.1 Beta Program IBM is terminating diskette shipment of the Pre-release OS/2 2.0 - 32-Bit Graphics Engine and WIN-OS/2 Version 3.1 BETA effective October 23, 1992. Please refer to the subject bulletin for further details. **************************************************************************** To : SYSOPs of all IBM External BBS's *=Modified with more recent info Subject : ServicePak problems PLEASE REMOVE ANY versions of the ServicePak if any are on your BBS's. We HAVE uncovered some SERIOUS problems that WILL be caused by this SP. This may result in a small percentage of the users being UNABLE to boot a system that has had the SP installed on it. Others may have serious problems RUNNING programs. A majority will have no problems, but let us be safe on this one please. * Although the NEW SP, when released WILL be able to apply fixes to a * any machine that has had service applied with the old SP, please do * NOT distribute it, as ALL DISK IMAGES will be replaced and there will * be a name change to the diskettes as well. This will increase the risk * of people mixing sets if you release the old SP. Some people may only * get a few of the diskettes, or accidently mix them once they place a * label on it. Please instruct anyone who had D/L'ed a copy to destroy * ALL copies for safety. * Other problems now being investigated are - FONT problems - Palette problems - PATH API problems - Uncontrolled SWAPPER.DAT growth - Video Install problems - Communications Manager problems AFTER Install - Possible Time Stamp problems We are anticipating making a formal announce on the status of the SP * sometime today depending on the outcome of the investigation of the above problems.
