This is a toolbook application designed to enhance the reading enjoyment of latin poetry. I undertook to write it to learn about OpenScript programing. This first version presents a liturgical text, the Stabat Mater with notes and several translations. For those with some knowledge of Latin, hypertext links to a Latin dictionary and grammatical notes will help you read the original. I chose this text to work with because of my fondness for the Pergolesi setting and my desire to be able to understand it as it was sung. This application requires Toolbook 1.5 and assumes that it is installed. The zip file should contain stabat.tbk, latdict.tbk, stabat.eng, stabat.lit, stabat.fr2, and stabat.ge2. All the files need to be in the same subdirectory. If you put them somewhere other than the main toolbook directory, you will need to specify the working directory when you set up the icon. The explicit steps are: open Program Manager, click on Files, choose New, then choose program item. The description can be anything, the command line must be full_path\stabat.tbk, and the working directory must be the one in which all the files are located. More information is available in the application. If anyone indicates interest, the application and its dictionary may be expanded to include other poetry. Ultimately links to appropriate graphics and sound might happen.
