Reinstalling Your Program Disks The error message you received indicates that your copy of Q&A may be damaged. This could be the result of fluctuations in the power supply, static electricity, problems with the disk medium or other hardware problems. Instructions for Q&A version 3.0 If you are using floppies, you will need to make a new set of work disks from your original copy of Q&A. Consult page 9 of your "Getting Started Guide" if you need instructions on how to do this. If you are using a hard disk, you will need to reinstall Q&A from your original disks. The safest way to do this is to create a new subdirectory, and copy your Q&A disks into it. In this way you avoid any bad spots on the disk that your current copy is covering. After the new copy is installed and the special files mentioned below are dealt with, you can delete the damaged copy of Q&A. For further instructions see page 7 of the "Getting Started Guide". There are four special files that you may wish to transfer from your existing copy of Q&A. They are: QA.CFG Contains printer installations and global defaults and options. QAMACRO.ASC Your macro file. QAPERS.DCT Your personal dictionary. QALABEL.OVL Contains your specialized mailing label definitions. Q & A Application Note Rev. 6/92 #2014 Page 1 of 2 Reinstalling Your Program Disks Instructions for Version 4.0 To re-install your Q&A program you will need to run the INSTALL program on your original disks or a backup copy of them. Place the disk #1 in the appropriate floppy drive. At a DOS prompt, change to that drive. i.e. A: When the drive prompt appears type 'INSTALL' and press . You will be prompted to select the target and destination drives. The program will scan your drive for existing copies of Q&A, and ask whether you want to create a new sub-directory or install to a an existing one. If you are having problems with your hard drive you may wish to create a new directory so as not to use the same damaged area. Selecting a directory where Q&A is already installed will prompt the program to ask if you wish to overwrite. Select 'Yes'. If you are re-installing due to problems with Q&A select the 'Complete Installation'. If you need to install fonts files, utilities or templates you can do the 'Selective Installation'. The program will then begin the installation or prompt you for the type of file you wish to install. Make the appropriate choice of files. When selecting the files be sure to press the Space Bar to tag them before continuing. If you have done a new installation do to hard drive problems, you may want to copy over the files listed below.
