NORTON DESKTOP for DOS - FAXBACK INFORMATION Subject: DIVIDE OVERFLOW PROBLEM: "Divide Overflow" message from any Desktop program. A "Divide Overflow" message in the Norton Desktop is usually the result of a conflict with an older mouse driver. In limited testing, certain obsolete Packard Bell and Genius Mouse drivers are among those that have been found to exhibit this problem. RECOMMENDATION: Confirm that the mouse driver is causing the problem by removing (or remarking out) the statement in your AUTOEXEC.BAT or CONFIG.SYS file that loads the mouse driver. Then reboot your machine and check to see if the problem still occurs. If the problem vanishes when the mouse driver is not loaded, contact your mouse manufacturer and request an update to the most current version of their mouse driver. Packard Bell owners can call Packard Bell at (818) 886-2098 for a "mouse-driver" update. Genius Mouse owners should contact KYE International. Microsoft Windows users, alternatively, can load the Microsoft mouse driver installed in their WINDOWS directory (MOUSE.COM), rather than the one that shipped with their mouse. The Microsoft driver will work correctly with most mouse brands, and will not cause the "Divide Overflow" conflict. Norton Application Note Rev. 6/92 #4109 Page 1 of 1
