ANSWERS TO COMMON QUESTIONS REGARDING JUSTWRITE. Q. Does JustWrite take advantage of Windows Dynamic Data Exchange? A. Yes, JustWrite supports the DDE standard by allowing you to establish links between your word processing document and other applications. It's easy to create complex documents with graphics, spreadsheets, and text. And when you update the source data, the changes are automatically reflected in your JustWrite document so your letters and reports always contain the most current information. Q. You've talked about JustWrite's Automatic File Conversion using popular word processors. Exactly what formats can JustWrite automatically read and write? A. Microsoft Word, WordPerfect, Ami, Ami Pro, ASCII, DCA, MultiMate, Professional Write PLUS, Q&A Write, Word for Windows, WordStar and XYWrite. Q. How much does JustWrite cost? A. JustWrite has a suggested retail price of $199, so you could buy it at most retail stores for around $149. If you own any other Symantec product, it can be ordered for $79 from Symantec. For this offer, contact cutomer service at 1-800-441-7234. Q. Explain how you share a JustWrite document over a network? A. JustWrite provides file locking to ensure that the first user has editing rights to a document and subsequent users are allowed read-only rights. For example, let's say Shirley creates a document, stores it on the network and begins to enter additional information. Lisa needs to add a table to this document. JustWrite checks to see if the document is being used when Lisa starts to open it. Lisa is told Shirley is editing the document. Lisa can either enter a request to Shirley for rights to edit, or be given a read-only copy. Q. Is it possible to import graphics files and if so in what formats? A. You can Paste or Paste Link a graphic image with a DDE link via the Clipboard when the information was created using Windows graphics applications. Or use Insert Graphics from the Edit menu to insert an image created by non-Windows applications, such as a DOS or Macintosh graphics document stored as a TIFF file (Tagged Image File Format). PCX, Microsoft Paint, TIFF, CGM, HPGL, Apple PICT, and Lotus PIC are available by Disk Import. Windows Metafile, Device Independent Bitmaps, RTF, and Bitmap are available by Clipboard Paste. The Help menu commands let you look up topics by examining and selecting them from an index, lookup document, table, graphic and menu command keys and all commands and procedures. Q. Is Mail Merge available in JustWrite? A. Yes. And JustWrite does not limit you to creating and using a merge list from JustWrite alone. You can use database records from an existing database or spreadsheet, such as dBASE III and IV, Q&A 3.0 or Lotus 1-2-3, if that file is saved in a tab delimited ASCII format. Q. Explain what frames are and what are their uses? A. Frames are areas within a document where you can place data objects. You can place a frame virtually anywhere in a document page and also define position, size and frame type. The table editor supports links to Excel, which allow you to create a spreadsheet with live reports from JustWrite based on that data. The graphics editor can import through the Clipboard and from disk, update and refresh graphics automatically or manually and enable the user to crop, pan, scale or size to fit. The text editor provides a document within a document that has its own formatting and borders. Q. How do you create multiple columns? A. JustWrite lets you define a columned layout for each section in a document, then forces text, table or graphic frames into a column in a section. You often see 2, 3, 5, and 6 columns in newspapers, journals and tabloids. With JustWrite up to 8 columns are available and JustWrite fits text inside the column boundaries. To define the column layout, choose Insert from the Section menu, select Column Layout from the Section Format dialogue box, select the number of columns, enter the gutter width (or white space) between each column, then close.
