Corel Corporation Announces CorelDraw 3.0 The World's First Comprehensive Graphics Solution Ottawa, Ontario -- May 15, 1992. Corel Corporation announced today the release of CorelDRAW 3.0. With the addition of three powerful modules, and improved versions of existing ones, the new release of Corel's award-winning graphics software is the most comprehensive graphics software package available world-wide. "CorelDRAW 3.0 is a major leap forward in graphics software. Providing total graphics capability in a single easy-to-use package, CorelDRAW 3.0 is ideal for corporate standardization," said Michael Cowpland, president and CEO of Corel. CorelDRAW 3.0 combines the most powerful vector-based illustration program, business charting program, image editing and painting program and presentation program to provide the most comprehensive graphics software program available on the market. Corel has reduced the price of the Graphics package with the new rele ase. Shipping in June, CorelDRAW 3.0 will retail for a reduced price of $595 US, and $695 CDN. Registered users of any version of CorelDRAW will be able to upgrade to the new version for $149 US, and $169 CDN. A CD-ROM only version will be available for $549 US, and $629 CDN, and as an upgrade for $129 US, and $149 CDN. CorelDRAW 3.0: Contents CorelDRAW In addition to features that have won CorelDRAW praise in previous versions, CorelDRAW, the vector-based drawing module, will include the following features: -Editable preview. CorelDRAW still provides the option of working in wireframe. -Unlimited layers that can be locked, hidden, printed, and assigned colors. -Improved precision with flexible guidelines, and a snap-to-object feature that allows alignment to any shape. Guidelines can be assigned colors, displayed, hidden, and customized by free-form shapes. -On-screen text editing for artistic and paragraph text. New text features include color control over individual characters, spell checker, thesaurus, and a hyphenation option. -Innovative Roll-Up windows allow easy fingertip access to most frequently used features. -Connectivity. CorelDRAW acts as an OLE client and server. Improved and innovative special effects include: -Text on a path. Changes to the path will automatically prompt realignment of text. Text can also be repositioned along a path interactively. -Extrusion. Extrusion allows full control over an object's shape, color, placement in three dimensional space, and lighting. Extrusion can be applied to objects directly on the screen through manual control, as well as through precise measurements in the extrusion Roll-Up window. -Blending. Blending can now be applied to groups of objects, and to objects along a path. Paths can be modified interactively with the shape tool. CorelDRAW 3.0 also includes a rainbow blending option. CorelCHART CorelCHART is a powerful and versatile data-driven charting module. This new module includes: -Over 100 different chart types ranging from three dimensional charts to pictographs. -True three dimensional charting. With powerful options, data can now be presented from different perspectives. -Pictographs allow images to accurately convey data in a charted format. -Connectivity. CorelCHART acts as an OLE server as well as a DDE client. -Context sensitive pop-up menus put relevant charting options at finger tip access. CorelPHOTO-PAINT CorelPHOTO-PAINT combines powerful photo retouching and painting capabilities in an easy-to-use 24 bit image editing module. Features include: -Retouching capabilities. CorelPHOTO-PAINT paint tools include brushes, pens, smear paintbrush, and smudge spray can. Special effects filters can be applied to an image or a masked area. -Automatic retouching filters can be applied to scanned images. -Flexible color control of black and white as well as 24 bit color. CorelSHOW CorelSHOW is a versatile presentation module. It allows the user to pull elements from applications including CorelDRAW, CorelCHART, CorelPHOTO-PAINT, and other OLE servers, into single multi-page presentations, and slide shows. Features include: -Access to libraries of professionally created backgrounds, and animation flics. -Connectivity. As an OLE client, files can be inserted through embedding or linking. Mosaic Mosaic is Corel's visual file manager that previews and manages graphic files of several formats. Mosaic also performs searches, batch printing, importing, and exporting of files. In addition to CorelDRAW (CDR) files, Mosaic also supports BMP, Windows DIB, EPS, GIF, PCX, and TIFF file formats. CorelTRACE CorelTRACE is Corel's powerful tracing module that converts black and white bitmapped images into smooth vector form graphics.
