According to Dave Hallmen, Artisoft's Vice President of Sales and Marketing, "The AUI Interface Kit allows network users to take advantage of the Peer-Hub concentrator's flexibility in combining coax and 10BASE-T Ethernet cabling within a network." The AUI Interface Kit includes two pulse transformer chips and an AUI Interface cable attached. Installation is as easy as plugging the two transformer chips and the AUI Interface cable into the Peer-Hub concentrator. A complete thin or thick coax Ethernet segment can then be connected to an AE-3 Ethernet adapter (which supports thin and thick coax cabling in addition to 10BASE-T), and thus, to the 10BASE-T network. The Peer-Hub concentrator is a complete 10BASE-T hub residing in a host PC. It has five external 10BASE-T ports using modular RJ45 telephone-style jacks that can connect to any standard 10BASE-T adapters. Its network management software allows the host PC to view the status of all ports, as well as activate or disable each port individually. Plus, onboard EEPROM saves the complete network configuration to memory, guarding against power outage. The Peer-Hub concentrator also has three internal connectors designed to connect with other Artisoft products. One provides an internal 10BASE-T connection to Artisoft's AE-1/T(TM), AE-2/T(TM) or AE-3 Ethernet adapters without using one of the five external RJ45 ports. Another internal connector is used to link multiple Peer-Hub concentrators together; up to four per PC. The third option, which requires the AUI Interface Kit, provides an internal coax connection between the Peer-Hub concentrator and an AE-3 Ethernet adapter. Used in this manner, the AUI Interface Kit creates a bridge between the 10BASE-T network on the hub and the coax Ethernet segment attached to the AE-3 Ethernet adapter. Artisoft develops and manufactures a full line of hardware and software for local area networks including the LANtastic(R) Local Area Network. The LANtastic network is a peer-to-peer network that allows users of IBM(R)-compatible computers to share programs, data and peripheral devices such as printers, hard drives, tape backups and CD-ROMs. For more information about Artisoft or its product line, contact Artisoft, Inc. at 691 East River Rd.
