In the beginning, there was PRNRES, which included HPRESET and LPRESET, designed to reset their respective printers on LPT1. Then there were requests for a version that will work on LPT1, 2, or 3 as well. The result was PRNRE2, which also included HPRESET and LPRESET. The problem with PRNRE2 is that I don't have LPT2, so I couldn't test it. I sent it to Compuserve, and a lot of people downloaded it. It worked for some, and not for others. Now there is PRNR22. (I wish I could use 8 characters for a file name on CIS!) It's a test version. It's not Beta. It's not even enough to be Alpha. It's more like prealpha. What that means is that I've written it, using the same logic as the original version, but I don't have an LPT2, so I can't test it. Is it safe? I have no idea. Please be aware that for all I know it could blow up your computer, trash your printer, put thirtysomething back on the air, and all sorts of other catastrophes. Here's what I do know: 1. If you have your computer hooked up to LPT1, use the original version instead. It is called PRNRES.ZIP on Compuserve. 2. There is another version called PRNRE2.ZIP which gives you the option of using LPT1, 2, or 3. I have had Email from people who have successfully used it and from people who haven't. If it works for you, use it. 3. This version, PRNR22.ZIP, contains HPRESET2.COM and LPRESET2.COM which WILL NOT work on anything but LPT2. I don't know if they will work on LPT2 or not. What I do know is that when I tried it on my computer which has no LPT2, it locked up until I did a Ctrl-Break. (I knew it wouldn't work. I just wanted to see what it would do. I'm not THAT stupid.) In case you're not familiar with the trilogy, here's what PRNR22.ZIP includes: LPRESET2.COM, which sends a reset code to Epson-compatible printers, and HPRESET2.COM, which sends a reset code to H.P. Laser PCL printers. It might work on other Laserjet printers, but I don't have them, so I don't know. Syntax: HPRESET2 or LPRESET2 Don't bother sending money, but if you try these programs, please let me know whether or not they work. Just drop a note to Randy Woolson, 73447,3116. I'm working on a series of tiny programs that will send various commands to various printers. If you have a request, please request it. *** History: 1.0 May 24, 1991 The original. It's much smaller (203 bytes for each of the two COM files) 2.0 June 7, 1992 1. Added optional parameters to work with printers other than LPT1. 2. Added a VERY limited help screen. 2.2 June 10, 1992 Instead of optional parameters, as in 2.0, 2.2 is for LPT2 ONLY and I don't even know if it works.
