June 1987 Hayes chosen to participate in the first commercial use of ISDN technology by Southern Bell with service to begin in March 1988. June 1988 National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), ISDN Users Forum (formerly known as National Bureau of Standards), meets to establish guidelines for implementing ISDN. ISDN users, including Hayes, agree to request that ISDN implementors provide functionality through a common, compatible user metaphor. September 1988 Hayes continues participation with NIST when it conducts first joint meeting of ISDN users and implementors. October 1988 At the National Centrex Users Group show in Houston, Texas, Hayes ISDN PC Card is used to conduct a variety of communications tasks. January 1989 Hayes is the first ISDN CPE vendor to provide hardware at AT&T Bell Laboratories for testing with pre-release software generics, most notably 5ESS version 5.0, illustrating the value of CPE and switch vendor cooperation. May 1989 At the International Communications Association (ICA) show in Dallas, Texas, Hayes demonstrates in the special ISDN showcase section with a more sophisticated ISDN LAN software display, screen sharing, and file transfer applications running on Hayes ISDN PC Card. June 1989 For the first time, Hayes ISDN PC Cards are used in demonstrating image file transfer between Wang PC's and minicomputers at the 1989 Association for Information and Image Management (AIIM) trade show in San Francisco, California. The third joint NIU Forum is sponsored by NIST in Boston, Massachusetts, and Hayes offers contributions from the user perspective. August 1989 Hayes implements Early Placement Program to develop real experience in customer locations with ISDN management issues, with over 15 sites across North America participating during the program. October 1989 Hayes begins program to provide Hayes ISDN PC Card evaluation units to potential resellers. November 1989 At the National Centrex User Group meeting in Atlanta, Hayes demonstrates Hayes ISDN PC Card in AT&T's booth. The demonstration focuses on ManyLink LAN, Smartcom III, HyperAccess, and connections to Hayes headquarters VAX for electronic mail. December 1989 Hayes announces a formal alliance with GPT, Europe's largest PABX supplier, to develop, manufacture and distribute advanced products for ISDN networks. January 1990 Mid-1990 availability of Hayes ISDN PC Adapter is announced. March 1990 Hayes sponsors Software Developers' Conference in Atlanta, and over 50 third party developers attend. Technical sessions are held concerning Hayes modem technology with emphasis on ISDN software development implementing Hayes Standard AT Command Set for ISDN and Hayes ISDNBIOS. July 1990 Hayes ISDN PC Adapter units are available at substantial discounts to qualified third party software developers. September 1990 Northern Telecom Canada announces M5000TD1 to Canadian market. The M5000TD1 is a stand-alone ISDN terminal adapter supporting Hayes Standard AT Command Set for ISDN.
