============================================================================= Practical Periperals Upgrade Policy for V.32 to V.32bis Modems ============================================================================= 3-2-92: Practical Peripherals, Inc. is pleased to announce the long-awaited details for the upgrade of Practical V.32 modems to the new V.32bis modems. This upgrade program will be valid until June 1, 1992. It was originally anticipated this program would entail replacing the internal V.32 module with a pin-compatible V.32bis module. Unfortunately, this was not technically feasible. It has now become apparent that to honor our commitment to this upgrade program, Practical must replace the V.32 modems with completely new V.32bis modems. This has resulted in the following schedule of costs: PM9600SA to PM14400FXSA (external to external) $249 PM9600 to PM14400FX (half-card to half-card) $249 PM9600SA to PM14400FX (external to half-card) $229 PM9600 to PM14400FXSA (half-card to external) $269 The above pricing includes shipping and handling, but does not include any applicable state sales tax. Payment can be made with either a Visa or a MasterCard. To make this program as flexible and convenient as possible for our customers, the upgrade program will be administerd by the PPI Technical Support Department using the RMA process. You may call Technical Support at 818-991-8200 to get your upgrade RMA number. There are two program options available: [1] Expedited Delivery: If your telecommunications needs do not allow being without your modem during the period while the trade-in and replacement modems are in transit, you may choose to charge the full retail price of the new V.32bis modem to your charge card. The new modem will be shipped immediately. When the V.32 modem is returned to Practical Peripherals bearing the assigned RMA number, the price difference between full retail and appropriate price in the above table will be credited to your charge card account. [2] Standard Delivery: If your operation allows being without your modem during the turn-around transit time, you may obtain your upgrade RMA number, charge the appropriate price to your charge card, and then return your V.32 modem to PPI. When your V.32 modem, bearing the required RMA number, is received, your new V.32bis modem will be shipped immediately. In both cases, be sure to place the RMA number on the outside of the package. Be sure to properly package your returned modem and insure it for the full amount to protect against loss in transit. Practical Peripherials cannot be responsible for modems lost in transit. You should also place your name, address, and daytime telephone number inside the package. The management at Practical Peripherals appreciate your understanding in this matter. PPI, along with other modem makers, were led to believe that this upgrade could be done with a module change in the same basic modem design. However, the new PM14400FX modems required a massive redesign in order to allow the greater speed of a 57,600bps port speed and the addition of V.32bis and FAX capability. Again, thank you for your patience over the past months. We're confident you will find the new V.32bis/FAX modems well worth the wait. =============================================================================
