Document 1101 NEC DOS SN Description: NEC DOS 3.3 PARTITIONS WITH DR DOS 5.0 and 6.0 INSTALL says that "you must first FDISK your hard drive;" When you go into DR DOS FDISK and try to remove the partition, FDISK indicates that "This is not a DOS partition." End users are able to remove the partitions with NEC's FDISK, then recreate them with DR DOS's FDISK. DR DOS then installs fine. NEC Powermates are shipped with NEC DOS 3.3. This version has been HIGHLY modified from normal DOS 3.3. One of the changes is that their FDISK utility will create larger-than-32 MB partitions on the hard drive, however their method of doing this is NOT compatible with either the Compaq DOS 3.31 scheme or the MS DOS 4.01 scheme. Removing the partitions with NEC FDISK is the only solution - this is also required if the user wishes to install regular MS DOS 4.01. It is important to note that running FDISK will result in the loss of all data on the disk. Please have a backup before doing this procedure.
