This document explains how to install and/or upgrade StarWorks Menu Program (SMP) 2.3. If you are installing SMP for the first time, follow ONLY the instructions marked NEW or BOTH. If you are upgrading from a previous version, follow ONLY the instructions marked UPGRADE or BOTH. [ ] NEW Create a directory for StarWorks Menu Program using the DOS MD command. Example: MD C:\SMP [ ] BOTH Change your current directory to the directory where you want to install SMP. Example: CD\SMP [ ] BOTH Copy the self extracting archive file to the SMP directory. The archive file is called SMP230.EXE. Example: COPY A:SMP230.EXE [ ] BOTH Extract the SMP program archive. Example: SMP230 [ ] BOTH Extract the SMP program files and the SAMPLES archive. Example: SYSTEM Note that if you are upgrading, you should answer "Y" to all the prompts asking to overwrite an existing file. [ ] UPGRADE Modify your existing menu files to a version 2.3 format. Example: 2TO3 As the 2TO3 procedure executes, you'll see each of your menu files displayed as it is modified. A copy of the old menu file is retained under the same filename with a .BKP extension. [ ] NEW Extract menu files from the SAMPLES archive. Example: SAMPLES [ ] BOTH Configure SMP for your preferences. Example: MENUCTL /C This will run the main menu program in configure mode. Enter your starting directory, password, video mode, and colors, and press F2, and then press Esc. [ ] NEW Add the SMP directory to the DOS path. Use any text editor to modify your AUTOEXEC.BAT file. Find the line that contains the "PATH=" statement, and add your SMP startup directory to it. For example, add ";C:\SMP" to the line. [ ] BOTH Run SMP by typing MENU at the DOS prompt.
