One often overlooked requirement for a good station location is adequate electrical service. Eventually you will have several pieces of station equipment, as well as accessories, and all of them will require power to operate. Be sure that at least one, and preferably several electrical outlets are located near the future operating position and that the outlets provide the proper voltage and current for your rig. Although most modern radios require only a few amperes, you may run into problems if your shack is on the same circuit as the air conditioner and washing machine. The total current drawn at any one time must not exceed the rated limits. Also, remember that someday you will upgrade and may want to purchase a linear amplifier. If so, you should have a 220 volt line in the shack or the capability to get one. +
