CENTRAL POINT ANTI-VIRUS SIGNATURE UPDATE *Signature File Update Information for DOS Versions other than Version 1.0* The self-extracting archive file named DOSSIG.EXE is for users of Central Point Anti-Virus Version 1.1 and all future versions. It contains an update file that includes the latest virus signatures available. This update works with Central Point Anti-Virus Version 1.1 or later. To update your version of Central Point Anti-Virus, follow these steps: 1. If you are on CompuServe or the Central Point BBS, download the self-extracting archive file as DOSSIG.EXE to a temporary directory on your hard drive. If you have the Central Point Anti-Virus Signature Disk, copy the self-extracting archive file DOSSIG.EXE to a temporary directory on your hard drive. 2. Run DOSSIG.EXE to extract the update signature file, VIRSIGS.CPS, and the Read Me file, DOSSIG.TXT, which contains this file and an updated list of virus signatures included in the VIRSIGS.CPS file. 3. Copy the VIRSIGS.CPS file to the directory on your hard drive containing the Central Point Anti-Virus files. 4. Reboot your computer to invoke the new signatures when you run VSAFE. 5. Run the Central Point Anti-Virus program. The virus list is updated automatically when you run the program. There are some virus signatures included in the VIRSIGS.CPS file that have the same name as viruses already detected by your version of Central Point Anti-Virus. As new variants of viruses are found, we may add the variant signature to the signature file to increase the virus detection capability. Since the name of the variant is, in most cases, the same as the original virus name, it will show up in the virus list only once and will not be added to the total virus count. ***************************************************************************** To update PC Tools VDEFEND Version 7.1, follow these steps: 1. 3. Copy the VIRSIGS.CPS file to the directory on your hard disk containing the PC Tools VDEFEND file (normally the PCTOOLS directory). 4. Reboot your computer to invoke the new signatures when you run VDEFEND. Look for the message "XXX external signatures were read," which should appear after the VDEFEND box, with XXX being the number of new signatures added, if the signature file was properly extracted and copied to the correct directory. There are some virus signatures included in the VIRSIGS.CPS file that have the same name as viruses already detected by VDEFEND. As new variants of viruses are found, we may add the variant signature to the signature file to increase the virus detection capability. The signatures are handled internally, and the user cannot see a virus list. This may cause the number of external signatures listed to differ from the actual number of signatures added. ***************************************************************************** To update PC Tools Version 8 signatures for CPAV and VSAFE, follow these steps: 1. 3. Copy the VIRSIGS.CPS file to the directory on your hard disk containing the PC Tools data files (normally the PCTOOLS\DATA directory). 4. Reboot your computer to invoke the new signatures when you run VSAFE. Look for the message "XXX external signatures were read," which should appear after the VSAFE box, with XXX being the number of new signatures added, if the signature file was properly extracted and copied to the correct directory. 5. Run CPAV and view the Virus List to see the list of viruses detected by CPAV. There are some virus signatures included in the VIRSIGS.CPS file that have the same name as viruses already detected by VSAFE and CPAV. As new variants of viruses are found, we may add the variant signature to the signature file to increase the virus detection capability. With VSAFE, the signatures are handled internally, and the user cannot see a virus list. This may cause the number of external signatures listed to differ from the actual number of signatures added. ***************************************************************************** Virus signatures contained within the VIRSIGS.CPS file dated 04/17/92. 1241, 1244, 1701-A, 1876, 191, 1963 A, 757, 765, 864, 907, Ada, Adolph, Afri, Amilia, Anto, Argentin, ATT-149, Barcelona 1, Base-463, Base-540, Base 575, Base 606, Be Ware, Beast-NBL, Beta, BigJoke, Black Wiz 2, BlackJack 5B, BlackJack 7B, Bob, Boojum, Brainy, Brothers, Bulgarian, Burghofer, Cad Kill, Casc, Cascade, Cascade 1, Castellon, Caz-B, CB 1530, ChanguMangu, Copmpl, Copyright, CSL, CZ, Dark Evil, DataCrime II, Day10, Day10, Delyrium, DM, Dutch Tiny, Eliza, Enigma 1, Enigma 2, Europe, EvilEmpire, Exterm v1.0, F-709, Fake VirX, Fumble, Gergana 1, Gergana 2, Gergana 3, Gergana 4, Gosia, Gotcha, Gotcha C, GP2, GP3, Grapje, GrowingBlock, Hary Anto, Hero, Hey you, Hitchcock, Horse 9, Hungarian, Hydra-0, Hydra-1, Hydra-2, Hydra-3, Hydra-4, Hydra-5, Hydra-6, Hydra-7, Hydra-8, Illnes, Infinity, Intercept, Iron Maden, JD 158, Jebberwocky, Jer.Einstein, Jer.Miky, Jerusalem 1, Kamasya, Karin, KBug 1, KBug 2, Kranz, Kuku, Kuzmitch, Leprosy C, Leprosy D, Liberty SSSS, LitelBrother, Lozinsky, M Face, Macabi, Micro Pox, Migram, Mini 45, Minimal 1, Mirror, Mono, Moskito Topo, MPS 1.1, MPS 3.1, MPS 3.2, MPS-OPC, MSTU, Mutant, Mute, New Com, New Virus, Nines, November 17, Nuke, NV-71, Omega, Path, Pathhunt, PCflu, Peach, PlovDiv, PlovDiv 1.3, Poem, Polish 45, Polish Color, Polish Mini, Possess 1, QMU, Quiet, Rage, Rape 10, Rape 11, Scoda, Seventh son, Shadow Byte, Sigalit, Sigalit PT, Smob-1A, Socha, Something, Sov v1.0, Sov v2.0, Squeaker, StinkFoot, SVC v6.0, Thursday 12, Tokyo, Tony, Traveller, Tuesday 1, Tuesday 2, Tuesday 3, Tuesday 4, TUQ, USSR 311, V2, V21, V472, VacsinaLoadr, VHP 361, VHP 757, VHP 776, Vienna Dr.Q, Violator B3, Voronez, W13-REQ!, Words, Yankee I, Yankee II. ***************************************************************************** Additional Virus Signatures included in VIRSIGS.CPS dated 04/30/92.
