GUSMOD V0.1 Beta ================ GUSMOD is a mod ( Amiga music module ) player for Gravis Ultrasound. This is just a bug fix release of Joshua C. Jensen's GUS port of his infamous SPP ( Super Pro Play ) mod player. I've decided to release this version despite the fact that there still are a lot of bugs to kill because there isn't anyone seem to be working on this mod player including the original author himself and I won't have enough time to work on it once I start working next monday. Please send any comments or suggestions to 'yuri.lee@canrem.com' Usage ===== Just type 'gusmod filename.mod'. There's no fancy volume bar or any other goodies. Simple command line mod player. Capabilities ============ Being based on Joshua's SPP pro player code, this one impelements all the Amiga protracker commands. Not to mention it being a stereo Mod player. This version does not check for amount of memory installed nor will it warn you for not having enough memory for certain mod songs. If you have 1Meg on board, you shouldn't have any memory problems. But some people who have 256K on board will only be able to play mod songs with size of 256K or less. Upgrade your RAM to 1 Meg. I really think Gravis should ship Ultrasound with 1Meg on board for all shipments. Known bugs & problems ===================== It seems that porting of existing mod player ( mainly dumb dac mod players ) to GUS environment isn't as straight forward as I thought. I think most bugs are there just because of this reason, and I can understand why Joshua is getting tired of bug fixing. Anyway, here's some major bugs ( also annoying ) that I've found so far. 1) Volume or note cut off problem When playing songs, on most of them, you will hear here and there that some notes gets cut off or not playing at all sometimes. I'll start investigate this problem next weekend if I have time. 2) Garbled instrument samples This is a quite rare problem but it is quite obvious and very annoying on 'axel.mod'. This, in theory, should not happen at all but it does. I'll also investigate this one as soon as I have some free time. I personally like 'chicago.mod', 'beyond.mod', 'deelite.mod', 'africa.mod' These ones play O.K. with this mod player. - Yuri Lee
