Why support US Robotics?

I have been in the modem industry for several years.  I have
watched several companies gouge and rip-off people. US
Robotics  and  Hayes are the worst.

Believe me if it were not for all of the inexpensive
Rockwell and AT&T chipset based 14,400 modems available at
under $200 you would not find a US Robotics for anything
less than $1000 retail.  About a year ago US-Robotics
started selling the Sportster.The Sportster had the same PC-
Board as the Duel Standard, yet the Duel Standard
cost several hundred dollars more. In fact some of the older
sportsters are capable of operating as a Dual standard until
US-Robotics realized the mistake and altered the
EPROM to put a stop to this. Not to mention US-Robotics
released a message saying that using the sportster as a duel
standard could cause damage to your hard drive.When the
sportster and the Duel standard cost about the same to
manufacture then it is smart marketing that keeps them both
successful.

I have no problem with a company making a fair profit. But I
do have a problem with a company that gouges.

Who is responsible for the price reduction in the last 2
years?

About 2 years ago Rockwell was charging over $250 for 14,400
bps chipset for the modem manufactures to use to make
modems.  AT&T introduced a new chip-set that cost only $70.
Rockwell lowered the price of their Chip-set to about the
same as AT&T.

US-ROBOTICS  has made no effort to make high-speed modems
affordable until it had no choice due to competition.  And
then they just changed the case that the modem is in and
dropped the price by several hundred dollars. I personally
think this sucks and I will never bye one of the US-ROBOTICS
products.

Many Many companies make modems that are better quality than
US-Robotics and these companies along with AT&T and Rockwell
are what made modems affordable to the average user. With
this in mind why support the but heads at US-Robotics. Lets
support companies like Twincom, Zoltrix, ViVa, Best-Data and
Computer Periphrials INC. (CPI).. These are some of the
companies that manufactuer very good products at a very
good price. These companies did not wait untill the Taiwan
products like Supra moved into the USA.
