Thank you for expressing interest in The Recipe Processor. Use the program for a 30 day trial period. If you find the program useful, please register with the author. If you like it (or even if you don't), please give copies of the program to your friends to try. All the author asks is that the program be copied with all accompanying files intact. Why should you register when you already have a working copy? While this version (2.9.5s) of The Recipe Processor is complete and uncut, the registered version (2.9gr) can hold 1000 recipes per directory. In addition, you will receive the utility programs RPCOOKBK.EXE, and IMPUTIL.EXE. RPCOOKBK will print a cookbook of your recipes, including table of contents, recipe index, and custom cover page. IMPUTIL will import recipes exported from the Computer Chef, Micro Kitchen Companion, and Micro Cookbook recipe programs. Registering will also entitle you to one free upgrade, when available. It will also encourage the author to continue to improve and upgrade the program. Last, the registered version does not have the opening "annoyance screen". INSTALLING THE SOFTWARE: CREATE A DIRECTORY ON YOUR HARD DRIVE CALLED RP BY TYPING THE FOLLOWING: 1. CD\ AND PRESS ENTER 2. MD RP AND PRESS ENTER 3. CD RP AND PRESS ENTER NEXT, COPY ALL RP FILES TO THE RP DIRECTORY BY TYPING: COPY A:*.* WHEN COMPLETE, SIMPLY TYPE RP TO START THE RECIPE PROCESSOR. THE FILE MANUAL.DOC IS THE DOCUMENTATION FOR THE SHAREWARE PROGRAM. SEE THE MANUAL.DOC FILE FOR REGISTRATION DETAILS. Please write to me with your comments and suggestions. If your suggestion becomes part of the Recipe Processor, you will receive the next upgrade free of charge. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ N O T I C E ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ I have received some phone calls and letters from shareware users of version 2.9 complaining that the program did not allow them to add recipes to the database. Apparently, a bad download must have corrupted the database pointers. This corrupt datebase was then uploaded by the user to another BBS. Through the shareware process, this corrupt copy has spread around. The corrupt database allows you to view the current recipes, but scrambles any new recipes you try to enter. However, you can enter recipes into a new directory without problems. If you know anyone who has experienced this problem, it is easy to recover the recipes in the corrupted database. Perform the following steps: 1. Choose the EXPORT function from the UTILITIES menu. Use the name BACKUP when asked for a file name. Answer YES to the prompt "Is the export file meant for another RECIPE PROCESSOR program (Y/N) ?". Then answer YES to the prompt "Do you want to export all recipes on file (Y/N) ?". This will export the entire database to a file called BACKUP. 2. Exit the program, and from the DOS prompt issue the command: ERASE *.RP and press enter. This erases the corrupt database. 3. Turn off your computer for 10 seconds, and then turn it back on. There is a reason for this, but it is too involved to get into here. 4. Restart The Recipe Processor. From the ADD menu, choose the IMPORT DATA option. Enter BACKUP for the requested filename. Answer YES to the prompt "IMPORT ENTIRE FILE". Answer NO to the prompt "Edit Categories at this time (Y/N) ?". The recipes will then be imported back into the database. The above steps result in a rebuilt database structure without loss of any data. It is my intention for version 2.9.5 to replace any corrupt copies of version 2.9 that may exist. Although most copies of 2.9 are not effected, please upload this zip file (RP295S.ZIP) to the BBS's that you use.
