_________________________________________________________________ STACKER NOTE STACKER NOTE CONFIGURING A CD-ROM ON A SYSTEM WITH STACKER (Applies to Stacker 1.x, 2.x, and 3.0) STAC FAX 2506 (08/93) _________________________________________________________________ BACKGROUND During system startup, Stacker drives are assigned a drive letter by DOS as they are "mounted" by the Stacker device driver in Config.sys. CD-ROM drives are not assigned a drive letter until MSCDEX.exe loads in the Autoexec.bat file. Because Stacker drive letters are assigned first, the CD-ROM will have to take the next available letter. This means that if your CD-ROM existed before Stacker, you will probably have to reconfigure it to use a new drive letter. CONFIGURING THE CD-ROM. 1. CONFIG.SYS - Here is a sample Config.sys. It is recommended that the CD-ROM device be loaded after SSWAP.COM as shown. DEVICE=C:\DOS\SETVER.EXE (this is required if running under DOS 5.0) DEVICE=C:\STACKER\STACKER.COM C:\STACVOL.DSK .....etc. DEVICE=C:\STACKER\SSWAP.COM C:\STACVOL.DSK /SYNC DEVICE=SONYCDU.SYS or DEVICE=PCD650S.SYS [/D:name /B:xxx /M:mode] 2. AUTOEXEC.BAT - The CD-ROM letter is assigned here with the /L: parameter on the MSCDEX command line. Take note of the Stacker drive letter assignments at boot time. For example, to determine which drive letters Stacker has been given, type: C:\STACKER\STACKER The output will look similar to: STACKER - 2.00, (c) 1990-91, Stac Electronics, Carlsbad, CA Drive C: was drive D: at boot time [ D:\STACVOL.DSK ] Drive D: was drive C: at boot time Set the CD-ROM to the next available drive letter. In this example, drive E: is available for the CD-ROM. In Autoexec.bat you would assign drive E: on the MSCDEX command line, MSCDEX /D:name /M:x /V /L:letter /E _________________________________________________________________ Copyright 1993, Stac Electronics Page 1 of 2 Change /L:Letter to /L:E MSCDEX /D:name /M:x /V /L:E /E After changing the CD-ROM drive letter, it may be necessary to re-setup applications or programs to recognize the new drive letter designation. _________________________________________________________________ Copyright 1993, Stac Electronics Page 2 of 2
