_________________________________________________________________ STACKER NOTE STACKER NOTE MOUNT ID WRITE ERROR (Applies to Stacker 3.1 for Windows & DOS) STAC FAX 31020 (10/07/93) _________________________________________________________________ BACKGROUND If the Stacker device driver cannot successfully write the Mount ID to a STACVOL file on a Hard Card, you will get the error message "Mount ID Write Error" when you start your computer. SOLUTION Manually remove write protection Verify the position of STACHIGH.SYS in your CONFIG.SYS file Add a line to AUTOEXEC.BAT to automatically remove write protection Install the updated Stacker files Remove the line from your AUTOEXEC.BAT file Manually remove write protection 1. To remove write protection so that you can change your computer's configuration, at the DOS prompt, type: C:\STACKER\CHECK drive: /F /B where drive is the letter of the write protected drive. Verify the position of STACHIGH.SYS in CONFIG.SYS 1. Edit your CONFIG.SYS file. 2. Ensure that the line that ends with "...STACHIGH.SYS" appears after your Hard Card's device driver. If STACHIGH.SYS loads first, then move your Hard Card's device driver above it. For example: DEVICE= DEVICEHIGH=C:\STACKER\STACHIGH.SYS 3. If you modified your CONFIG.SYS file, save the changes. Add a line to AUTOEXEC.BAT to automatically remove write protection 1. Edit your AUTOEXEC.BAT file. 2. Add this line to the beginning of the file: C:\STACKER\CHECK drive: /F /B where drive is the letter of the write protected drive. 3. Save the file and exit to DOS. 4. Restart your computer. Stacker will display the Mount ID write error and prompt you to "Press any key to continue..." 5. Press any key. Write protection will be removed by the new line in AUTOEXEC.BAT, and your computer will start normally. Note: your computer will boot in this way until you complete the next two steps. Install the updated Stacker files 1. Run setup from disk 1 to install the updated Stacker files. Follow the Setup screens, and choose RESTART when prompted at the "Setup/Upgrade Complete" screen. Your computer will start without the Mount ID write error. Remove the line from your AUTOEXEC.BAT file 1. The line you added earlier is no longer necessary. Edit your AUTOEXEC.BAT file and delete the line: C:\STACKER\CHECK drive: /F /B 2. Save the file and exit to DOS. _________________________________________________________________ Copyright 1993, Stac Electronics
