_____________________________________________________________________________ STAC FAX Index#3202 SSWAP.COM not finding SPART.PAR at Boot Time (Applies to Stacker 3.0) _____________________________________________________________________________ Background. This conflict is caused when the SSWAP finds a Windows permanent swap file (386SPART.PAR) in the root directory of the drive being swapped. SSWAP will then look for the Windows directory to find the SPART.PAR. If this directory is not found the following error message will appear: "SSWAP Warning: Located a Windows permanent swap file on a disk to be swapped, but could not find the Windows file, SPART.PAR, pointing to it. Press any key to continue..." Procedure. 1. Change the order of the swap so that the drive with Windows on it is swapped first. 2. Insert one of the following /W switches on the swap line reporting the error: /W- - Do nothing, don't even look for 386SPART.PAR /W+dirname Search dirname and \WIN*.* and PATH /W=dirname Search and update SPART.PAR in directory "dirname" * Note: The /W- is a fast method of overcoming this dilemma for Stacker users which do not have their drive assignments alternating. It has been found that the /W- switch is sometimes the only switch that will remove this error message. Example: DEVICE=C:\STACKER\SSWAP.COM D:\STACVOL.DSK /W- __________________________________________________________________________________________ Copyright 1993, Stac Electronics
