Stacker for the Macintosh

   With all the great programs out there, your hard disk probably doesn't

"Common Questions"

Will my system slow down? 
In most cases, you won't notice any slowdown in your system. The time 
required to decompress your data is offset by the reduced amount of data 
that must be moved from your disk. You may even see performance improvements 
on some disks and for some programs.

Will I always get twice the hard disk capacity? 
On average, Stacker doubles the capacity of Macintosh hard drives. However, 
your actual experience will depend on the kind of data you have. Applications 
and system files often compress less than 2:1, but other types of data, such 
as page layout documents and bitmap files, compress significantly better. 

Will I still be able to use all my programs? 
Yes. Because Stacker is disk-oriented, it avoids the compatibility problems 
that are created by file-by-file compression products. That means you can 
still run all your programs, extensions, INITs and utilities.

Can I use my stacked hard drive on a Mac without Stacker installed? 
Yes. With Stacker AnywhereTM, there's no special software required to run 
a stacked drive. Once a hard drive or removable cartridge is stacked, you  
can use it on any Macintosh...even if one is on the other side of the world.

Will my data be safe? 
Yes. You can be sure your data is safe with the leader in data compression

Can I unstack a disk? 
Yes. Stacker will unstack as simply and safely as it stacks your disk. But, 
you have to have enough space for all the files you added after you stacked

Can I use my hard disk utility software with Stacker for Macintosh? 
Yes. Hard disk management utilities such as Norton Utilities or 
Central Point's MacTools work fine with stacked disks.

What if I'm already using AutoDoubler? 
Stacker is so compatible that it can be installed along with AutoDoubler 
(or any other file-by-file compression program). However, we can't 
compress your data twice. To get the benefits of Stacker, simply decompress 
your AutoDoubler files; Stacker compression will occur automatically. 
Stacker also works transparently with programs such as Stufflt and 
DiskDoubler, so you can continue to use them for archiving and file transfer.

What makes Stacker better than the other disk expansion products?
