--------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE Every copy of Windows 3.1 contains over 160 icons. Every additional Windows application contains at least (1) icons embedded in its EXE file. Although you can draw and save icons with this version of the Icon Editor, you cannot EXTRACT icons from the Windows 3.1 files C:\WINDOWS\MORICONS.DLL, C:\WINDOWS\PROGMAN.EXE, or other Windows EXE files. To receive the more versatile version, send a cheque or cash of $10.00, payable to Serge Poirier, to the following address. Serge Poirier --------------------------------------------------------------------------- This text file contains instructions on how to install "Icon Editor" from your hard disk. If you are reading this then you've already decompressed the program source files (including this file) into a temporary directory (Ex. C:\TEMPDIR). --------------------------------------------------------------------------- IMPORTANT To execute "Icon Editor" and the installation program for "Icon Editor", the file "VBRUN300.DLL" is required in your \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory. This file is available on Compuserve, and is named "VBRUN3.ZIP". Note that if you've already successfully downloaded and executed Visual Basic 3.0 shareware, then you already have the file "VBRUN300.DLL" and do not need to download it again. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- To install "Icon Editor", follow the procedure described below. 1) Close all running Windows Applications (IMPORTANT). 2) From "Program Manager" open the File Menu and execute the Run command. 3) Enter the setup program name (SETUP1.EXE), including the drive/directory. For example, if the source files are located in the directory "C:\TEMPDIR", then you would enter "C:\TEMPDIR\SETUP1.EXE". 4) Follow the instructions provided by the "SETUP1.EXE" setup program. The setup program requests the location of the pre-installed program files, and the final destination of the installed "Icon Editor" program files. Example: If the pre-installed program files are located in "C:\TEMPDIR", and you want to install "Icon Editor" in the "C:\ICONEDIT" directory, then "C:\TEMPDIR" and "C:\ICONEDIT" become the source and destination directories. 5) Execute the "Icon Editor" program by double clicking the newly created "Icon Editor" program icon, located in the newly created "Icon Editor" program group. 6) Delete the pre-installed program files and directory. Following our example, you would delete the "C:\TEMPDIR" directory and its contents.
