OS/2 Driver README File Version 1.02a +===============================================================+ | IBM OS/2 2.x disk driver for PROMISE Disk Accelerators | +===============================================================+ PTI1S506.ADD is the driver for IBM OS/2 2.0 and IBM OS/2 2.1x. Features: -Enables TURBO MODE (PROMISE proprietary Multiple Mode) -Enables 32-bit data access mode -Supports up to Four IDE Hard Disks -Supports SECONDARY Controller Operation -Supports Cache Operation mode selection RECOMMENDED PARTITION SETUP PRIMARY Partitions should be created on ONLY THE FIRST TWO HDs. These recommendations are made to avoid changing the original OS/2 assigned drive order. The error message "Cannot Find COUNTRY.SYS" is a symptom of this setup problem. If your PROMISE Disk Accelerator is installed as the PRIMARY controller, Hard Drives D2 and D3 (i.e. the "THIRD" and "FOURTH" HDs) attached to the second connector should be partitioned as LOGICAL UNITS. A standard OS/2 installation should have a PRIMARY Partition on the first and second HD with an Optional PRIMARY Boot Manager Partition. If your PROMISE Disk Accelerator is installed as the SECONDARY controller, ALL HD partitions on the controller should be created as LOGICAL UNITS. These are the steps to recreate PRIMARY partitions as LOGICAL UNITS. 1. Backup the data. Backup any necessary data stored on D2 and/or D3. 2. Delete the selected PRIMARY partition(s). Delete the PRIMARY partition(s) created on D2 and/or D3. From a DOS BOOT, use the "SIFDISK.EXE" utility from the PROMISE DOS Utility diskette to accomplish this. There should be no partitions defined on D2 or D3 after this step. If FDISK was used, it should state "NO PARTITION DEFINED." WARNING: Deleting partitions will destroy data. Be careful to select the correct drive partition(s) you wish to delete. 3. Install the PTI1S506.ADD driver in OS/2. Follow steps under the "DRIVER INSTALLATION" below. 4. Create partitions as LOGICAL UNIT(s). Open the "Drives" folder in the OS/2 desktop and run the FIXED DISK UTILITY. Partition the drive(s) as LOGICAL. 5. Format the partitions. Proceed to Format the new partitions. 6. Restore data. Restore the backed up data onto the partitions. DRIVER INSTALLATION Please follow the steps below in installing the driver for DC4030VL-2. 1. Install the OS/2 driver. Copy PTI1S506.ADD to the OS2 directory of your system. Use a text or system editor to edit the CONFIG.SYS file. Add a line as follows: BASEDEV = PTI1S506.ADD Note: This statement must not contain either drive or path information. If your mainboard CPU has a 16-bit external bus (for example, IBM 486 SLC2), add the /W parameter to the statement. If this parameter is not specified, the controller will function under the default 32-bit data access mode. 2. Delete or remark out the "BASEDEV = IBM1S506.ADD" device setting. Delete remark out the command line "BASEDEV = IBM1S506.ADD" from the CONFIG.SYS file, if it exists. 3. Reboot the system. DRIVER SWITCHES The PTI1s506.ADD driver installs automatically with its default parameters. The following switches are available if necessary: /V : Verbose - display driver information at initial time /A : Adapter index - the ordering of adapters /I : Ignore adapter - driver will not initialize the adapter indicated /R : Reset adapter - enable or disable reset /DM: DASD Manager support - enable or disable IBM-supplied DASD device manager /U : Unit number - the fixed disk drive number /T : drive Timeout - the total allowable error recover time /W : 16-bit data transfer /C:T : Cache Enable, Write Back - Turbo mode /C:F : Cache Enable, Write Thru - Fast mode /C:N : Cache Disabled - Normal mode Note: Swithes not appearing above but are used with the IBM1s506.ADD driver will not work with this driver.
